Honestly, I purchased a skip shift elemintator before I bought the car because I thought it was going to bother me a lot. After having the car for over a month already, I have only experienced it one time. Mine is still sitting in the package. I guess it is just the way I drive it does not activate.

Go with Apex, the service was great and they got it to me quick.
Easy to install, the directions were great. Just make sure you connect it to the top connector, the bottom is for the reverse lockout.
Be warned, the display will still show the 1-4 screen, just smile when it does and shift to second.

I just push in the clutch and rev the engine and the Skip Shift indicator disappears immediately and I shift into 2nd.

If you have to start out that slow, why not start in 2nd?

@ YellowRS -- "Will it void your warranty?"

I wouldnt think so. But, I don't know for sure.

My logic being, skip shift is an economy based mechanism. As MiracleAces pointed out...you can get around it even with Skip Shift active. So, it's not preventing damage. It only kicks in when three factors are all in alignment...low throttle, 1st Gear and below a certain speed.

It's just generally viewed as a nuisance.

One of the dumbest thing ever! 1st to 4th?? The car almost stalls once you put it in 4th gear!
I know GM voids your warranty by not following the 1-4 shift gear.
I put it 4th-3rd or 4th-2nd really annoys me a lot!

Unless you drive like an 80 year old woman you will never see the skip shift engage.

@ Yellow RS

According to the book there are actually three factors after the obvious one...being in 1st.

Driving and Operation 8-31, PDF pg 207.

This message will come on when:
• The engine coolant temperature
is higher than 76°C (169°F),
• The vehicle is going 24 to
31 km/h (15 to 19 mph) and
• The vehicle is at 21 percent
throttle or less.

I can't blanket void the warranty just going from 1st to 2nd since it can be done outside of the above parameters. Now forcing it into second while Skip Shift mechanisms are blocking 2nd and 3rd....yes, I agree.

Yes, very annoying. It's kinda like Windows babysitting you..."Are you sure you want to delete this?"..."Access Denied."

@Joeybsyc

Yeah. The problem is the actual 80 year old drivers in front of me blocking the single lane of travel. Makes me want to rake my eyes out.

Mine doesn't engage often enough to install an eliminator. When I do see the Skip Shift message on the DIC, I'll shift it into 3rd. Not a problem for me.

Well said! I do have to drive during rush hour and sometimes I do not go faster than 5-10 mph. For crying out loud let me shift into second gear!!!
Seriously.

Even shifting into 3rd is a nuisance imho.
I will get me of of those shift eliminators

Just shift above 19 miles per hour and you won't ever see it, anything under would be shifting too soon anyway.
