I say it will most likely be a drivers race. I can see the Z pulling off a win in a 1 mile run. One the Z hits 150 and starts developing down force, she will just hunker down and start pulling on the BMW ...

.... until the Z runs out of steam at 184mph vs 200+mph for the M5.

Well, I can give the results of a chance encounter in Nevada. *Evil Grin*

But it solves my quandary on what to put on the custom plates.

It hard to understand, but the M5 has been running times faster than the ZL1 in the 1/4 mile. But the ZL1 will put up faster times on a road course.

Here is an example from Car and Driver testing.
M5 - 11.9 @ 123 mph
ZL1 - 12.3 @ 118 mph

But it's become fairly common knowledge that the ZL1 isn't a 1/4 mile monster. It seems to be more setup for a road course.

So based on its on track performance and a few part stampings, the ZL1 really is the Z-28. I guess not having a NA motor is what dictacted the name change.

but the zr1 is a two seater two door 3200 pound car not a 4 door 2 ton plus sedan. the m5 is a luxury car it should be compared to the cts-v

price is not the thing to always look at.

this is a luxury/sports car of BMW. its not going to be cheap to have both like that. corvette is honestly a pure sports car. not luxury at all. therefore its not a fair race in someways.
