I have a question about the 2012 Challenger?

Does anyone on here know how much horsepower the new 2012 Dodge Challenger v6 is suppossed to have next year? I'm just curious because I saw someone on here saying something about it but I couldn't find anything on yahoo.com or anywhere else. I'm just curious I heard about a new 500hp SRT8 too. Thanks in advance!

If I had to guess, especially since they are going to introduce a new 6, is around 300.

I just found an article about it. Apparently its a 3.6 liter but it doesnt say anything about the horsepower it will have. I'm betting at least 300 or more like you guys or it would be a waste.

I found an article that says it will make 290 bhp (216 kW; 294 PS) at 6,400 rpm

and torque at 260 lb·ft (353 N·m) at 4,800 rpm. I'm sure they will up it to over 300 hp for the Challenger.

I hope so..not a big fan of the current 3.5. It's smooth, but underpowered.

Its good in cars that are around 3,000 or so lb. Any more than that and its a bit weak.

Isn't it the same engine they put in the Prowler?

Yep. It's also in the Avenger R/T(tho with 236 HP, not 250), 2004-2006(I think) Pacifica, Charger/Magnum SXT, Journey R/T (or whatever).

It's really a wide spread engine, just a bit old. The Pentastar family should be a great improvement.

i feel that 300hp isnt enough for the extra weight the challenger carries. maybe it will be underrated and the V6 challengers wont be embarassed in performance shootouts anymore!

The SE Challengers weight way less than the R/T's and SRT's. Something like 3700lbs or something like that.

The iron block Hemi is a boat anchor in the weight dept. If the 5.7L had an aluminium block then the R/T's curb weight would be just about 3990lbs loaded and without passenger (mine, without me, was 4,080 lbs). Throw in a lighter exhaust and tube exhaust manifolds stock (like the 5.0 has) and you would see a Challenger R/T with a curb of 3950 pounds, just a shade under the L99 SS.
