Getting Ready For My 2SS/RS, RJT Part 2 - Engine Build

Most of the parts for the built-up LS3-427 engine have arrived, along with other performance parts. I went out to my engine builders shop in Walker, Louisiana Friday to start taking photos. I did not finish taking pics, when I got the call that the Camaro was about to arrive at the dealer! So I rushed out to pick her up. Pics of the car are posted in several other threads in this forum. Details of this build are in part one of this thread. Anyway, her are a few pics to get things started. There will be lots of pics of the build, installation, dyno tunning and track time as it all comes together. This is a great forum! Enjoy!

Block is now at the machine shop getting prepped and the heads are off to Meaux Racing in Abbeville, Louisiana to be ported & polished by Larry Meaux.

Allan Futral, Futral Motorsports will be performing the engine and head assembly and all the other performance mods.

I have to reiterate the nice selection of parts as well!
Could you let me know when the car goes to the shop? I would really like to see what that color looks like on the car as well as the sweet motor going in!

EZ

Still Waiting

We are still waiting on the machine shop to finish with the block and rotating assembly. Also waiting on head work. If we get everything done, debugged and dialed in...I am thinking about taking the Camaro to the LSX Shootout in Memphis this October. I will probably race in the True Street Challenge division, 10 second class. Stay tuned...Tired of waiting.

Finally, Bottom End Work Begins!

The block & rotating assembly finally made it back from the machine shop the end of last week. Allan was cleaning parts this afternoon. Tomorrow Allan will measure clearances and start assembly. I will be there to take pics. The Fast LSXr 102 mm intake arrived last week as well. Thats the last of the parts. I will start posting pics of the build later this week.

Bottom End Assembly

Yesterday Allan assembled the bottom end. Enjoy the pics.

The heads are back from Meaux Racing Heads. They flowed 340.2 CFM on the intake and 245.4 CFM exhaust. They are now at the machine shop being milled to get our 11.8:1 compression ratio. If all goes well Allan will assemble the heads tomorrow. Pics to follow.

Allan speced out the cam and it is being ground by Cam Motion in Baton Rouge. Cam spec: 236I/250E @ .598/.630 - 114 LSA

One of the things to take notice of when selecting some one to build your engine, is how neat & clean their engine assembly room is. And if they do not have a special room for this purpose, that is not temperature & humidity controled (very important down here in south Louisiana), keep looking.

Cam Install, Top End Build & Oops

Heads came back from the machine shop, so the build continues. Installed & degreed the camshaft. Assembled & installed the heads and then WTF...someone ordered or shipped the wrong rockers.: iono: :( So it will be next week before the engine assembly is complete. The Camaro is scheduled to go in the shop on the 18th for the install. Pics below of work this afternoon. I would post more pics, but it takes to long to upload.
