4 point harness with stock seats
Curious if anyone has tried installing a seat belt bar and 4 point harness, but retaining the OEM ZL1 seats?
Trying to work out if the angles and geometry would work. I just want to be strapped in tighter so I don't slide around and hang onto the wheel so much at the track (many very tight corners). |

Just my opinion but if you are putting a rollbar/half cage in it and belts, you should install 5 or 6 point belts. The submarine (crotch) belt is very important in a high speed frontal collision to keep you in your seat. A car this fast should (my opinion) have more/better safety gear when running hard on track than say a 120 hp Miata (honestly I’d want to have gear in that car too but the likelihood of a extremely high energy impact is way higher in a ZL1 (or GT350R or ZR1 or or or...).
I’ve personally been in a bad bad wreck on track and the cage/belts/HANS/window nets saved my ass (and a bit of luck. Still had life flight trip to Fairfax Trauma center and a week long visit but I lived!). That occurred during a big NASA road race fighting for the lead last lap 2 corners to go in 2014. We had contact and both crashed (he flipped multiple times and I went in the wall and eventually trees drivers right after T9 at Summit at about 90 mph.). And that’s in a lower power PTE (ITS) classed ‘93 Probe GT V6 racecar. So ya, that episode really changed my outlook on safety and today’s super high speed capable cars. If I’d ever take my ZLE to the track (it’s unlikely as I own two other pure race cars and drive a third for a team) id drive it gently and probably would be overly cautious in stock form. And (for me personally) its too valuable to rip out the seats and put in a roll cage and belts and fire bottle etc to make it safe enough to drive st 10/10ths. Again that’s just me and my experiences. These cars are capable of 150-160+ bone stock and if the worst happens at high speeds like that, you don’t want your last thought to be ‘darn I wish I had put in that cage and seats and 6 pt belts and HANS and suit’ |

If you go with a 4 -point, make sure it has an anti-submarine feature such as Schroth's

Looking for installation feedback on the BK offering of harness bars. Anyone recently installed one? Hoping to avoid any type of drilling or interior panel modification.

Yes, I'm definitely going with anti-sub protection. As I earlier posted, I'm more concerned about keeping me in the seat and off the steering wheel. But safety will always be #1.

Please read up, not sure the stock seats are set for what your doing. I had same delema, and after reading up and making calls, I went with schroth 3 point ASM system after talking with them. Note the camaro is not officially approved when placement of back belt is down, angle is wrong. They told me to tie into the C pillar. Use a blank clip to ensure airbags air activated. These are $10 on amazon. They stated this would be best with my Simpson Hybrid, best of factory safety, but hold me in the seats... Do research of what works for you.... Like the guy above, I wear a full suit and go a bit far on safety, and passengers also wear a suit and spare hybrid, it's expensive, but $1000 for added measure is priceless. Plus I only go 80% with passengers, they don't need to be scared, but learn why this is so thrilling... Just my views be safe.

Will you post some pics of the Schroth 3 point? I didn't know they made such a thing....
Does it attach at the factory locations? Same as factory just without the auto-retract? |
