Exclamation HELP! ZL1 goes into limp mode..

when my uncle drives the car hard his 2012 ZL1 goes into limp mode and reduces power. the car says service stabilitrack and slows the car down to 20-30 mph. he has a roto-fab intake and a smaller upper supercharger pulley for more boost and a tune, besides that the car is stock. any ideas of what could correct this? i believe the code reads out as a problem with the MAF.. he cleared the code without writing it down for me.. lol im asking for him because he is 100% computer illiterate any ideas?

Sounds like either a bad tune or maybe hitting the Rev limiter?

Another option is the ecm, if you got some low octane or bad gas it can throw the tables off.

Send a message via AIM to yellow69z28rs
Check for a vacuum leak, and check that the intake tube is fitted snug and has no air leak at fittings etc.

He probably has the nanny's on,tell him to hold the traction control button down for 7-10 seconds thats turns all the traction control and stability off.

Irregardless having the nannies on and driving it hard wont trigger the MIL and have a code stored.

To the OP. without knowing the code it's hard to say. He should be taking the car right to his tuner for issues like this in case something is wrong somewhere in the tune.

How recently was the CAI installed? If recently could the MAF have been put in backwards? Just a thought...

Bad tune. They have set it in SD mode or the parameters for the MAF and MAP codes are not fixed for the higher boost and it freaks out when high airflow is seen because it doesn't match what the MAF is reading. Sets a code then puts it into "reduced engine power" I bet it has stored P0101 and P0068

The problem here is almost certainly in your tune. I doubt that the car would have been tuned in SD because frankly that would be dumb for a street car like yours. The are parameters for expected and total airflow by rpm in the Engine Diagnostics section that have to be adjusted for the new higher airflow that you have now. If they aren't the PCM will continue to throw you into "limp mode" to protect the engine from what it thinks is a "runaway event" that could cause engine damage.

Call your tuner and have him fix it properly this isn't something you want to keep dealing with.

Yes, What he said!

What I've found is the car will set P0101 for MAF failure when you get on it hard. Now the PCM thinks the MAF failed and puts the car in SD mode. Once it is in Speed Density mode and you continue to get on it hard it sets P0068 which is MAP/MAF throttle position correlation mis-match. Then it won't like the P0068 one bit! And throws it into "Reduced Engine Power"

I swear this must be something with GM and cold weather...LOL! My Escalade basically has the equivelent of the same code and symptom as of this morning. After it was turned off for a while the whole thing cleared!
