change of mind: how about painted hood and hockey stripes? eh eeh?
The "paint" will not crack! The clear is where the issue lies as it cures very hard. A flex additive needs to be used on flexible substraights such as plastic bumpers and ground effects. If a flex additive is used in the clear at the proper amount which is stated by the paint manufacturer there will not be any issue with cracking.
This is another reason I would assume some of the preproduction cars had issues with the paint not exactly matching from plastic parts to the steel body panels, any additive that is added to one part and not another in the beginning stages will have slight differences in color.
