I've only taken the ZL1 up to 132mph with the top up and it was at night. Had it in the 140+ range with the top down though during the day. And all this fast driving happened in Mexico.

From the factory the convertible is limited to 155mph as Sven59 said.

I was almost there... next time I'll keep the foot down a little longer. The few times I did a flat out run, I was afraid the Mexican police would be waiting for me behind a cactus... those guys don't play around when you spook their donkey and spill their cup of charro beans on themselves

You can go all in with the top up.
There is a reason why Chevy limited the convertibles, tho.

The fabric doesnt look very confident at 180mph, but it doesn't instantly break, too.
I wouldn't do it on a weekly basis, though.

A friend has a LS7 swap in his SS Conv. and was going 180mph+, i told him that the limitation is due to the rag top and next time he felt how the top was doing at these speeds and now he only goes that fast with top down.

I've only done about 110 before I let off (But been over 100 quite a few times), where I live, cops are gun-shy due to Woodward and Gratiot racers, 15+ over is deep shit. Cousin went 190 in a bolt-on ZR-1 on a local free-way, had a cop spotted him....nevermind....

Chase Dooley aka Snappy went 224.7 mph at the last Arkansas mile with a stock convertible top. They are pretty durable.

I am guessing he had a roll bar?

Yeah, he has a removable full cage in there. One of the times we were both at the Texas mile, he made a 200+ mph pass with one of the side windows open and the air buffeting cracked his windshield but the top held together. I would not worry about speed with the convertible top.

That's unreal. I would have never thought a soft top could handle that kind of stress. Well done GM.

I like where this thread is going... might have to eliminate that 155mph limiter.
