Would a pre order be a good investment?
I have been following this car for a long time and went into the dealer long ago to get on a list. I got the call and he said that his ds got an allocation of 3 and that I should get in fast to place a pre-order.
I've decided now to keep the car that I'm driving now. BUT, I thought that if I got my hands on one of these that it my be a good investment. What is the deal with the pre-orders, will they really get their cars early enough to make them "rare" for a short time? Anyone know how many pre-orders are being taken? THANKS! |

I'm not sure what you are asking to do. If you are looking to make a few bucks by selling your pre-order slot, Being that the order is in your name/address, the dealer would likely tell you to go pound sand if you said you were passing it off to someone else (especially if they find out you are profiting). If you buy the car and then sell it immediately, you may be able to make a few bucks if you find the right buyer willing to fork it over. Its quite the gamble though and you will have a VERY SMALL window of opportunity.
IMHO Not worth it, just give your spot up to someone who wants the car for real.

The dealer I'm working with knows what I'm thinking of doing. His boss is fine with it and just wants to "move some iron".

Yeah, with over 300HP, it's pretty fun.
You better get your pre-order in now so you don't have to turn to me! LOL |

Ah, that's cute! For a PT.
Jeez, dude, get your head straight. New cars are never, I repeat, NEVER, a good investment. This is not a limited production car and you will never make money on it, especially once you figure in TT&L on the cost. Anyone here that bought a new 2002 Camaro and has sold it can tell you that they didn't come out ahead on that transaction. If you want to buy and hold a car for an investment, go find yourself a perfect 1967-1969 1st Gen Camaro, fully loaded from the factory and then re-sell it in about 10 years. |

No way. If I was in that situation, I'd wait it out and get a brand-new Camaro from the dealer. GM plans to sell 100,000 of these cars in the first year, there will be plenty to go around. This isn't like a Wii or an Xbox where people were stupid enough to pay thousands of dollars to get one. Once production begins, there will not be any limits on deliveries.
Quit being selfish and give up your spot for someone who really wants the car and has been waiting for years to get one.
