USPS vehicle maintenance.....

Anyone know if this is a Federal USPS job or is it contracted out to a third party?

Some work is done inhouse by level 9 VMFs. Some work is contracted out. When they actually receive maintenance.

In some areas cleaning and washing is farmed out.

Level 9 is the postal/government level designation. VMF is the term used for the Vehicle Maintenance Facility. So if you live in large metro areas you are usually Postal Employee. Outer areas to far from VMF's are usually contracting out to local shops. Some place do both.

For example...
Tires are taken care of by local tire shop/full service gas station
Oil changes and most parts are taken care of by VMF.
Full motor or transmission repairs contracted out to shops.
Washes contracted out to cleaning company.

Good luck. I am sure it will be very hard these days. The doom and gloom pricks have a strangle hold on hiring. All they want to do is cut craft (non-managerial positions..as in the people who do work). We were the largest employer of veterans. I am sick to see the shape that we are in right now..
I have tried talking to my congressman about it but to no avail. Who will be there to hire our soilders when they come home from the two wars they have fought in. In the old days you were almost guaranteed a position at the Post Office. But that was when we were a "service" insted of the bloatted ENRONesqe business that the it has become.
