Rx Catch can install on LS3
Hello everyone. I've been a member here only a few short months, but I have learned A LOT from this forum. What a wealth of information there is in here.
I thought I'd give a little back, so I made a video on how to install a oil catch can on a Camaro SS with the LS3 engine (6 speed manual). The video is pretty lengthy, and I'm no mechanic. But I think some of our members will find this helpful. I ordered the catch can directly from Rx. There instructions were pretty good, with lots of detailed pictures. But, there was only one set of directions. If you have an LS3 do this, if L99 do this. Seems pretty easy except for when you don't know what some of the components are called. Then it gets a bit confusing. Anyway, here is the link for a video I just posted on youtube. I must warn you, it is lengthy (17 min). But, I do cover the entire install. If I would have been able to watch one of these before doing it myself, it would have taken 1/4 of the time. Hopefully, someone will spend 17 minutes and save 4 hrs... All corrections/comments will be welcome! Thanks!

Great job! I installed mine last week and this would have helped immensely. I'm sure it will be helping many future catch can installs.

Is a catch can really needed? If so what is the advantage?

What are the positives and negatives of installing a catch can? I've seen mixed review. Thanks

Thanks. I installed mine yesterday in about 20 minutes. It's so much easier when they send you the correct bracket.

This is a good thread that is not a million pages long.
I have never heard of a con, but the pros are a long list: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...nding+catchcan |

Booooosted.

I was one of those who said it doesn't matter if you have a catch can or not.
Then I removed my manifold to install my blower and had the oil pour out onto me. I was shocked at the amount. An intake manifold should really be DRY. And here I was dripping dirty oil all over. And my valve tops were soiled. For the money I'd say it's a good preventative. ESPECIALLY with a blower with an intercooler. Nice job on the install. |

Thanks for the install vid...as you very "diplomatically" described in the video, the included instructions and those on the website are essentially worthless. They had me trying to connect the can to a nipple located on the rear of my intake, when I should've been connecting to the two nipples located near the back of the T-body. Of course the random picture of the LS1 motor/throttlebody didn't help too much with my LS3 motor install.

Subscribed, doing an install soon. Do you have larger than average hands? I'm not comfortable disconnecting everything like you did, hoping to either get my girl to help or shrink my hands.

I removed more than I needed to...

Now, after having done it. I know the clasp can be undone with a finger or thumb, and then just pulled off (top one first). Then unbend the U and twist about 180 deg to expose the clasp on the bottom one. Also, you would not need to remove all the other plumbing like I did. I just did not know where to route all the stuff, so I thought I'd best to remove and replace. good luck. PM me if you have any questions... Ehmsea
