Solo Catback Drone

I have a 2011 V6 LLT automatic with Solo catback, cai, vmax ported throttle body. Solo is not suppose to have drone but the interior drone especially at lower RPM is horrible. I have tried adjusting the j-pipes as suggested by Solo but it really doesn't help. Replacing the system is really not an option. Any suggestions? Please real help, not you should have got this exhaust or that one.

Enjoy the noise at low RPM's. As long as it does'nt bother at 70 MPH at 1,800 RPM's they do the job.

I'm surprised at this. I have had this setup on both my coupe and vert with no drone. I assume you tried moving the j- pipe caps a half inch at a time throughout the available movement? I would also try removing the j and put the caps right on the main pipe and see if this is any difference.
I do have to say the placement of the caps was different from the coupe to vert even though they are both LLTs. It took a little while to find the sweet spot.

What can I say...I had the privilege of getting it installed by SOLO themselves... the following year I went back for the HFC & they saw a crack in one of the welds & they changed the whole exhaust system at no charge..

That's really odd, no problems here. Do you have headers or high-flow cats?? Anything else that could contribute?

I have try adjusting 1/2" both ways. Haven't tried removing the J-pipes and caping the main. I'll give that a try.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Interesting. Taking it back to the muffler shop for an inspection would be a good idea. Thanks for the info.

My husband has Solo on his SS and they are great. No drone whatsoever so I am really surprised with the drone on my LT.

Here is a question:

Where are you hearing the drone? At freeway speeds around 2,000 rpm, or just when your cruising along down a slow 35 or 40mph backroad?

If you aren't hearing it on the highway, but only at lower rpms I'd say it is working for the most part. The J pipe setup will only help to eliminate drone and 500rpm or so range from what I understand. I have personally ridden in a SOLO V6 with long tube headers....basically a car that should have droned like heck but it didn't. There was some drone, but not much at all. It was pretty tolerable considering the setup.

If the drone is at highway speeds and you feel lost on what to try next, you really should put the caps back to where they are supposed to be from the factory. Contact SOLO if needed to determine that. From there, adjust them a half inch or so at a time. If you have no drone at 1800 but do have drone at say 2,100 rpm, then a small adjustment should cover that...not sure which way you'd have to move the caps but SOLO could also tell you that.

If none of it works and the drone is really horrible I'm not sure what else to suggest, but I'd work it out with SOLO.

When I got mine I left them at the factory settings. No drone on the highway at the 70mph /1800 rpm range. But when I would be on a more county road that had a 50mph and i would be back and fourth between 5-6 gear, I would get some drone in 5th at the 22-2500 rpm when climbing. I put a little mark on my J-pipes where the factory setting where, then bumped them in about 1/4 inch. That did the trick. After another 5k, the sound changed a bit and I had to bump them in another 1/4. Still pretty good most of the time. Only drones when I do some serious climbing.
