how cool is this, my daughter got to meet and talk to Astronaut James Kelly today.
Her 3rd grade class went to the Columbia Memorial Space Center today on a field trip and got to meet Astronaut James Kelly, and she was picked from her class to ask a question and pose for a picture with him (only 1 kid from each class was chosen)..
Her question was: What is it like living on a space station? I will have to update his answer later, I was just sent a text message from the teacher letting me know that he picked her... She took a newspaper article (newspaper article here) with his picture in it that we had, in hopes of getting an autograph, and she got that and more.. *excuse the proud father moment* Edit: pictures added that is my wife and daughter, (excuse the blurriness, I guess the teacher couldn't work the camera very well), and the answer to the question was: "inside the space station is like living in a 20x20 room that has a trampoline as a floor, and you get to bounce and fly everywhere you have to go, trips to the bathroom are also quite interesting"

He flew STS-102 and STS-114.
I don't know if you know this, but STS-114 was the Return to Flight mission after Columbia. It was also the first time the R-par pitch maneuver was performed. Congrats to your daughter.

Yes, too bad I wasn't there, but sitting at work. as a child around her age I wrote many term papers on the Shuttle Missions, I collected all the patches from each mission up until I went to high school, Columbia held a special place in my heart as a child. my father worked on the Saturn V and Gemini projects and then transferred to Downey to work on the Apollo project at this very facility in the 1960s. I was never fortunate enough to meet any of the astronauts or even see them in person. It really saddens me the Shuttle program is over, I would have loved to have taken my daughter to FL to see a launch.
