Your engine temp gauge should be slightly below the halfway mark. As several members have stated, 235 degrees is NOT normal. I would be uncomfortable if my engine temp went above 220 degrees (even sitting in a dog-day-miles-long summer traffic back-up with the AC running).

If you're not completely satisfied with your dealer's assessment and your confidence is not inspired, take it to another dealer and have them check it out. It's worth the inconvenience to take it in and have "peace of mind".

I think this confirm for the op that 235 is not normal. Take the car back and demand to be looked at again or find another dealer.

I never seen mine go up to 235 either and I do datalog my car ALOT, and coolant temp is one thing that I keep my eyes on especially my morning's first start so I'll know not to push it too hard until the engine is fully warmed which is around 195*. Just a habit I have from my turbo days.

Mine's always around 199-205. I'd get it checked out.

Keep in mind the gauge might be faulty / not accurate. The OP states the coolant level was "very low" so the temp. sensor may not have been able to correctly measure actual coolant temp. It is also possible the fact that there wasn't enough coolant may have contributed to the high temp.

Yesterday noticed mine fluctuated 199-207 degrees, w/ an outside temp of ^70 C. Coolant reservoir level OK, coolant not hot/warm(as if been recycled). Guess this is normal for the LLT engine...? Initially thought this was running too warm for a cool(er) day.

Very normal. Mine frequently runs in the low teens here in FL. In fact the fan does on kick on until you are in the 220's.

mine is a 2012 LFX with the dexcol and it never goes above 183, and is usually at 180. even yesterday when it was 105 outside it cruised at 180 and peaked at 183 when stopped and idling.
