1st real motorized Ipad Dash Install

Here is my install of the ipad in the dash of my 2010 2lt.

Everything factory still works the only thing is the CD insert is now mounted above the glove box but you still can play CDs if you wanted.

The ipad will play movies, and audio through the cars radio. The cover plate that will hide the Ipad when it is down is not back from the machine shop yet.

OK since people dont read other posts,
YES it will go up and down faster, in the video it was hooked up to a 9vdc drill battery, when it will be hooked up to a cars 14vdc car system it will be faster,
NEXT it is strait in the dash it was measured and it is with in 1/16" level in the dash,
LAST yes it goes all the ways down below the line of the dash, the opening is at an angel it is just about 1" deep and 2.2" tall, so when it is down you will still see the top of the unit.

Just click on the picture and it will play the video on my photobucket.

Very cool. A couple things though. First I'd like to see it open and close a tad quicker. I would've put the home button on the drivers side. Not sure if that is possible or not.

Please post picks of the cover plate when finished. It's very cool.

Did you lose full use of the center vents?

I did loose the the function of the center vents, and it will go up and down a little faster when it runs off the cars electrical it was being powered by a 9v drill battery on the video, as for the button it was alot easier to get the plug and more feasible to do it on the pass side.

Nice effort. However, it looks crooked and won't go all the way down. Exciting project I'm sure, but I couldn't cut up my new car for that. A better/cheaper/easier option is an indash navi unit with an iPod or iPhone connected to it. But I guess you'll have something one of a kind eh?

For one it does go down all the way, below the line of the dash, the opening is only 1 inch wide but it is 2.25 inches tall, it is not crocked in the dash at all the bottom of the ipad lines up with the dash opening with in a 1/16".

And what is the point of just doing some throw in nav unit when anyone can do that I am building a demo car, If you are going to do something why do something everyone else can do.

Customizing a car is just that Customizing not just putting parts in it and calling it a custom car.
