Sea Foam

been thinking - saw a video explaining how to use seafoam in the vacuum line. the author mentioned to make sure and do an oil change immediately after, as any debris loosened up from the treatment would end up in the crankcase? this does not seem logical to me... thoughts?

Seafoam in the vacuum line won't enter the crankcase (unless you have a serious issue lol, or put the seafoam into the wrong hose). I would guess the author is referring to putting seafoam into the oil as well, running it for a bit, then draining it.

Someone else commented, but can't see it (maybe forum upgrade issues).

Seafoam is safe in your oil, as long as you only run it for a short time and flush it. It will help clean up junk in your oil pan, etc.

Seafoam is great to add to your fuel tank, but the best use of Seafoam is to put it through the vacuum line on the intake. It will suck the seafoam into the intake manifold, and then you shut off the engine and let it sit. It will dissolve the built up oil in there (if you had a good catch can this will help prevent this). Once it's sat for awhile start it up and drive it hard to clear the stuff out. You'll have lots of white smoke coming out for a bit lol

VQ3X engines in Nissans are notorious for pushing lots of oil through the PCV valve, so they suffer really badly from oily intake manifolds. Skip to like 5:00 if you want to see the smoke lol

Ive done it numerous times (so I am aware of the smoke) right before I change the oil. Just occurred to me, the 'loose' fragments wouldnt be going back into the pan...

No, as previously mentioned, this was probably meant to reference the use of Sea Foam in the OIL. This would need a flush shortly afterwards, partly for this reason.

There's a v6 write up on how to do this.

I'm needing an oil change this weekend and might tackle this ... if someone could do a write up on this, it would be great !

Instructions for Sea Foaming through the brake booster vacuum line are all over the internet. But since I don't feel like being a total asshole today, I've pressed the button and typed in "Sea Foam Camaro" for you.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286229

And yes, it's an LLT, but the same principles apply.

Well the information is just a google or forum search away. If someone's expecting others to do their searching/work for them, they can take a bit of an attitude with it.

The loose fragments would be going into the combustion chamber, and then (hopefully) out the exhaust. The only way these fragments would end up in the pan is if you have Piston Ring issues, in which case you'd have far bigger problems than worrying about sea foam.

We might as well discuss how great catch cans are now. The usual salesmen on here need to make more money.

OK. I've never read or have heard that as being a requirement for joining a forum before... or even the *wink* *wink* unwritten

I am, and have been a member of many forums... as well as being a Moderator on a very large Sport Touring motorcycle forum for several years.

So thanks for enlightening me.
