Well I connected the PDIM and sadly the radio did not recognize it :( On the first power up the radio turned on but none of the buttons on the front worked. After turning the radio off and back on, the buttons worked.

So it looks like I need to stop by a dealer and have them update the radio. Hopefully my local dealer knows how to update the Camaro.

So you did the install? was it difficult, and hopefully it will lower the total cost somewhat.

Unfortunately updating the head unit will not fix the problems with the connections and pairing people are having. The software/hardware of the PDIM is at issue for those types of issues.
Ahhh I stand corrected.

Agreed on the pairing issues, etc but I am curious if updating the head unit will fix the issue with remembering if the PDIM was set to random. TIS2WEB does indicate updates available for the head unit.

20860506 0000FE51 New software for improved operation including fixes for "No Sound for Ignition Cycle" issues.
20862566 00006911 New software for improved operation including fixes for XM and PDIM issues.
20839881 0000EA1F New software for improved operation including fixes for XM and PDIM issues.

Gotta love the details. "Fixes for XM and PDIM issues." Thanks. heh.

I've asked three dealers and only one of them knew what the heck the PDIM was. The other dealers told me that they would have to see the part and talk to their accessories installer to see if it was something they could do.

Your best bet is to install it yourself and just get them to update the radio if necessary. You may not even need an update to do it. The instructions very well could just be saying it just to be safe (and to get more $ for the dealerships).

You could possibly be correct since my car seems to have been built later than slick rick's car. But knowing how I am with taking things apart, I just know that some of the clips are going to be broken off.

Thanks,
I notice on page 4 as with any software program updating it gave the strong warning of power interruptions, loose connections or other various sort of problems. my fear of self install is that if the tech does not load the software properly and makes the control module unusable, the installer will get the blame.

It may be better to let the dealer perform the entire install and update.....

I don't know how eager the techs are to get paid, but they charge $90 an hour for installs, so if it takes 3 hours to install...

Shiza. Honestly I would install it all myself and just get them to update it under warranty (since there are warranty-covered updates available). That way they get paid still and you don't have to pay $$$$ out of pocket for something so simple. Of course this is all assuming that they can figure out how to update it (since it seems most don't know how to do software updates).
