Tire pressure?
Going to run my first track day in my Zl1 at Fontana Roval course in May. I will be using the O.E. Goodyear tires, any suggestions on what tire pressure I should use?

You really want your hot tire pressure around 37. For me at Mid-Ohio, that means I am at 27, BUT I didn't start there. I had to let out air as the day and track warmed up an the tires indicated they where over inflated. You don't want to start to low and cause your side was to flex and ruin your tires. I run with my TPMS window up on my DIC so I can see what is going on with my tires, then check them with a good gauge after each session and compare it to the DIC; believe it or not, the DIC is pretty accurate, at least mine is.

Hope to see you there. I actually ran those tires at fontana mayish last year.
Fontana can eat tires... Not sure how hot it will be. You can be sure that you will need to start below 30 cold. The previous answer is pretty similar to my notes on those tires. I liked ~36 hot which would be right where he says. F1 wont last or grip well at fontana.

Mark - That would be more meaningful if you said something like...
"I have run them starting at 32 and ran the entire Silver State Classic 90 miles averaging 125mph in warm temps" Just sayin |

Yes, you're correct and to make this more interesting now . The average speed was 126.0651 and that was too fast, and only good for 6th place. I had to look that up,and no i didn't remember that time, only that i didn't win.

Grand touring, you have to start in the touring division 1st.Your "tech"-or speed limit in touring is 124 mph,in grand touring your speed limit is 140 mph.The one i really want to run is the grand sport, speed limit 165 mph.In order to run grand sport you need a half cage roll bar, which i will do after i pay her off. Then headers, cam and a tune,as i want to run the 150 mph class. That's an average speed of 150 mph over the 90 mile course, can only imagine the rush

Honestly i could sit here and say triple 8s but i have no clue about you and your cars habits. The f1 isnt a horrible tire...fontanas mix of concrete and asphalt pavement is brutal on tires.
Run the f1 until they are gone the michelins Are becoming more and more popular for street and light track duty.

I would also suggest a good set of stainless brake lines and good DOT4 brake fluid; we use Motul RBF-600. The important thing to remember is your going out there to have fun and learn the limits of the car. You can checkout this thread HERE for some good advise. Please feel free to call, email or PM me anytime with questions. Kind regards, Jordan Priestley 888.308.6007 |

I found running 37 hot rear and 38 hot front gave a little bit better forward bite on exits.
