Corvette C6R GT2, Next gen V8 mentioned

So the corvette GT1 has been around for ten years now, and they have decided to race in the more popular gt2 series.
but new regulations next year will make the corvette team use a 5.5L version based on GMs Next Generation small block. sounds interesting, and I wonder what features will come in this motor.

read about it

My guess is, this will be the V8 with DI.
That should be some wow engine.

wouldn't it be funny if all the other teams migrate back to GT1 in the next few years to get away from Corvette ... again

Because 5.5L isnt enough, sounds like a mustang motor.

The series has displacement caps. The GT1 Corvettes were running 6.0L ethanol powered LS7's.

Anyway, displacement can't continue to increase every few years, particularly as fuel economy standards rise not to mention fuel prices. But where would it go
1997 - 5.7L
2005 - 6.0L
2008 - 6.2L
2011 - 6.5L?
2018 - 6.8L?
2022 - 7.1L?
2025 - 7.5??

I hope the 5.5 goes in a new caprice or something. Or even have it as an option motor for the camaro. Bring back the time of more options!

I had an 8.1L in my truck once, I'm sure we could fit it in a Camaro frame with a little work...

My bet is the next generation V8 is still 2 years away. I suspect it will hit the corvette in 2011 and the camaro in 2012 (45th anniversary?) That could be difficult to wait for.
