What does making the track widths the same do?

Front track width (all trim levels) 63.70" (1618mm)
Rear track width (V6) 64.10" (1628mm) (V8) 63.70" (1618mm)

(Link to Dimensions Source)

Can anyone with expertise in this sort of thing enlighten us as to what this might mean in terms of a difference in handling/oversteer/understeer/etc for the different setups (i.e. wider rear vs. equal width) used with the different powertrains? I did try a search for "track width" with no luck, but if it's already out there I apologize in advance.

I am no expert but i think that the difference in width for the rear is due to the v8 cars having a 9.5 inch wide wheel instead of the v6's 8.5 inch wheel.

I don't have any info on the handling issue you asked about, sorry.

Not that much difference really I know, so little that you'd never likely notice it in real driving, but I was curious...and they have been saying that they're tweaking it to perfection so I figured there might be a reason for the difference. But...the need to accomodate a difference in wheel width makes sense, so I'll consider my question answered unless someone else wants to continue to elaborate.

I would understand why they might make the front a little bigger on the SS, bt narrowing up the rear? No clue

I think the difference in wheel width might be the answer here.

I don't quite know how track width is measured, but with a wider wheel, it would seem like the middle of the tire would be moved in a little bit, if the wheel offset is the same...

But that would make a V6 with RS package have the same width as a V8 w/ RS package, assuming they use the same wheels for the RS package on the V6 and V8...

There may very well be no (or a negligible) difference in handling, since it's entirely possible that the only reason they're listed differently at all is the tire width thing. Again, I just found myself curious. Thanks for all the conjectures.
