M6 3.42's SUCK

OK,

so I know everyone loves the new Camaro including me. here is the deal. While I only have 600 miles on my new Camaro 2SS M6, I am seriously dissapointed in the overall performance and can only assocaite it with the 3.42's in the rear. Now before I get all of the hate mail, let me explain;

My wife has an 09 G8 GXP M6. Let me tell you, that thing freaking moves. I got used to driving it and so I am comparing my Camaro to it. She has 3.73's in the rear and without a doubt, she will blow the doors of of my Camaro.

I also have a moded 00 TA WS6, Headers, 3" Exaust, intake, 3.73s, etc. It even feels better 1st through 3rd than my Camaro.

Don't get me wrong here, the Camaro will move, but I find myself seriously dissapointed in 1st through 3rd.

Is anyone else feeling this way? is it just that the engine is not broke in yet with only 600mi? I have NOT been hammering. I keep the RPMs under 4k as much as possible. When we bought the GXP, it felt great from mile 1. They have the same engine, tranny, etc. The only thing I can guess is the gearing.

Anyone else feel this way? Anyone istalled 3.73's yet?

Much appreciated.

Daniel

Gears will definately wake this car up .... Hopefully the aftermarket catches up .. as I see 3.73s or 4.10s in my future.

3.73's is definitely the way to go. 3.42's are so they could claim such good fuel economy. I'm not sure I would go up to 4.10's, but any change you make to the rear is going to make a huge difference in how the car feels.

I know that 3.73's would wake it up, but is this our problem? Do you guys agree with what I am saying? Do you have the M6? Do feel that the performance is less than expected?

I had the same feeling when I went from a 04 Z06 to a 08 coupe, however when I went to the track the numbers were better than the Z06.
Just a difference in the raw power feeling from the Z06 to the more refined power feeling of the coupe.

I really feel that this car could use a little more low end for sure (but my last cars were FI so I was spoiled). Around 3k I really feel the LS3 kick in. I haven't taken it past 5k yet as I only have about 350 miles on the car.

I wouldn't worry about it .. let it loosen up some ...

Without me really hammering it, I know the car gets to 70 pretty quick ..

I think you have touched on somthing there. My '91 Mustang LX 5.0 feels just violent when I get into it, even after all these years, it still surprises me on occasion. Not too long ago, I drove a neighbors 2006 Mustang GT and it did not have near the "violent" release of HP and torgue yet when I looked down at the speedometer, it moved more like a tachometer and I know it is faster than my Mustang but did not feel that way. I'm used to the raw power feeling so I wonder when my 2SS arrives will it feel violent like my Mustang (or even moreso I hope ) or will it have the more refined, "get you there much faster without the break-neck torque" feeling...

EDIT: I just thought of something though...My Mustang has 3.08 gears and I'm pretty sure the 2006 GT has a different ratio...probably 2.73 maybe?? dunno. Maybe that explains the difference in feel...

Aren't the track times for the Camaro and G8 GXP almost identical?

I think the gearing is just throwing off your butt dyno.

Yep, I agree. Your feeling more grunt at takeoff and it feels like the car is faster although I would not mind having 3.73's

Theres are not a big difference between 3.73 and 3.42. If you want to see a big difference get 3.9 or 4.10!! That will make your car much faster then a GXP! I'm aiming at 3.9 myself.

+1. I've heard the rule of thumb is to go up 2 notches in gear ratio if you're going to change them out. Just going up to the next notch won't really feel that much different for the $. Get more bang for the buck going up 2 levels...

I am guessing that you forgot how much of a slug your 00 was before you modded it. Do the same mods to the new car and tell me if you feel the same way.

if you want difference you will do 3.90's or 4.10's.

All these performance updates are great...but I also believe this is where the camaro needs the most help, gearing.

Hopefully there are some available soon!!!
