Now, just a question for you folks... Who is going to have to pay for the telephone pole that was sheared off? What insurance co. pays that?

'I will never be able to afford another new ZL1, and basically I don't think I should have to be put in the position to have to buy a new one.' So, what he indicates is that when he takes his pristine car to a dealership for service, he doesn't feel that he should end up being put in the position to have to buy a new one. And you disagree with that? |

For one they didn't find a comparable car. The car was wrecked and had many more miles. Second, attacking the op over saying he didn't feel the offer the dealer made wasn't good enough is wrong. You can't replace the car he had. You can't argue with me on that factor either. He traded his TWO and I'll say it again in case you can't read, TWO Camaros for this zl1. Someone stole the car that was an employee at the time, wrecks it and then they insult Mr Hooper and his wife by saying ok we will replace it with a car that's been wrecked. The dealer is truly not making an effort if that is the car that they consider comparable. Plus it's a dealership and in truth, most of the time dealerships will do almost anything to make money and not lose any. As is the case with all business but dealerships are known for screwing over customers. Most not all. You can't argue that.

When I hit a pole, my insurance paid for the damage to it. If things are as they should be the driver's (joyrider) insurance should pay for it. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a d_ _ n about the pole though. I don't mean any harm but Just sayin'. They will replace the pole with one just like the one that was standing there before.
I think folks here are getting more riled up than need be. The issus is not really if he should get a brand new car or a used one. The issue is more that the dealership needed to step up in this case & bend over backwards to compensate this customer for a horrible, upsetting & outrageous incident that cost him his beloved ZL1. They needed to jump on this & from the onset let him know how badly they feel & make clear their intent to make it right. Then proceed to negotiate with him to find a way to make him feel as good as possible about the outcome. Nothing, not even a brand new ZL1 is going to make it all better. Yes, we have only one side of the story. We don't really know the OP. His comments here have seemed relatively calm & reasonable, but we don't know how he was to the dealer or what the dealer actually said to him. I do feel that if the dealer had been open to conversations/negotiations with the OP, it would be likely we would have never have heard form the OP here. For all we know, asking for a brand new car may be the OP's way of countering a low ball offer of the dealer much like most negotiations over price go. I think it is very clear that the dealer has responsibility to make amends & that it is not simply a matter for the OP's insurance. Can't we all just get along?????? I think we all feel terrible for the OP & want him to have back as close to what he arrived at the dealership with as is possible. Is that not what we ALL should be uniting to try to accomplish? How did this turn into an arguement. Enough of that already.

One of the major problems is finding a replacement car. Someone posted on the forum a while back.. or someone has the numbers of how many 2012 ZL-1's were built. That can be a problem. I checked ebay and there were a few for sale but prices were up there. That indicates two things, either the market hasn't fell off on them or all the sellers are wrong with their prices. So the ball may be in the owners court. If they cannot replace it with what they are offering that could be a problem. Supply and demand on low production cars drives the market crazy. Now if the prices are similar for a 2012 or 2013 it doesn't take a genius to figure out the owner should.. I repeat should consider paying a little difference to get one with a window sticker on it. He could also do another route. Why not get an appraiser to go visit his wreck and give him a second opinion to take to the insurance co. what the car is worth. That could be a legitimate answer to take to the negotiating table.

Thanks for that. Owner needs some facts like that to help in the negotiations. He may not get the color he wants but possibly if one is for sale a like car. Take for example when the GT40 Fords came out in 2005/2006. Limited units but look now what they are bringing. Speculation on what a car will bring in the future can be tricky BUT... look at the other former winners and it looks clear as the nose on you face to a car collector. That is exactly why they make classic car insurance. Your car does not have to be old it just has to be special. |

Two on Autotrader, both under 100 miles, one auto and one manual. Both under 50k.
Dealer must not have tried too hard to locate a car.
