Question about stock bottom end reliability (LS3)
I've got a G8 GXP with the LS3 and M6. It is essentially the same power train as the M6 LS3 Camaros. I've got 1 7/8" ARH long tubes and a cold air intake. I've recently put a TVS 2300 on my car. Currently, I'm running at 6.5 lbs of boost. My tune is very conservative with my AFR a pretty steady 11.1 at WOT and ~15-16 degrees of timing with no knock.
I haven't had my car dyno'd yet but I would guess I'm in the high 400's and maybe (but I doubt it) low 500's as far as rwhp goes. I know nothing is guaranteed when boost is introduced but, I would like to know how much horsepower the stock LS3 will handle with a reasonable amount of reliability. How much power will these engines handle for ~50-60K? I'm hoping to be solidly in the mid 500's but I don't want to do that if means my engine could grenade at any moment. I don't have the funds right now to buy a forged motor. That will have to be a couple of years from now.....I hope! From what the people at Magnuson told me, one size smaller pulley (1 tenth of an inch) is roughly equivalent to .5 lbs of boost. I'm running a 3.7" pulley up front with a 1:1 ratio on the back. I'm considering going down to a 3.4" or 3.3" pulley to put my boost around 8-8.5 lbs. Am I asking too much of this engine? My car isn't a track car, it's a daily driven, run relatively hard car that has the oil changed religiously every 3000 miles. I have all of the supporting mods regarding the fuel system so that shouldn't be an issue. I have a hybrid twin intank Walbro 342s with LS9 injectors. I run on one pump all the time and the second pump comes in at 4 lbs of boost. My fuel system should be good up to mid 600's without upgrading line size.

I am running 654 rwhp with 7psi. I have upgraded the entire top end and have a dual fuel pump as well. My tune is conservative and so far I am doing fine. I drive it pretty hard.
Here are my mods: Pro Charger Injectors Cam Push Rods / Springs Ported Heads Fast Intake Ported TB Headers Full Cat Back w/ Cat Delete Fastlane Duel Fuel Pump Tune My car runs great. Will it last, who knows. I know for a fact the Vettes push my HP and more and seem to hold up great. I know my clutch needs to be replaced but it seems to be fine for the moment. I also plan to add a cooling mist system as well. After that I am done. If it breaks it breaks. I don't feel like spending $5000 to build my bottom end on the possibility it might break. Cheers, Bryan |

We have a customer with a dual pump set up and our single turbo set up running 620 RWHP and 675 RWTQ and has over 20,000 miles on it.We did a leak down on it a couple weeks ago and the engine is doing fine. This is on a 2010 camaro bone stock LS3.

You should be fine, I'm at about 610 at 7.5 pounds of boost. Stayed on the safe side with the tune for now.
Andro- how many pounds of boost are you running. |

Imo if anybody is worried about the stock bottom end with boost, Id most definitely throw some forged rods and pistons in the mix.. Just a little more peace of mind for any FI build...

I will have a forged motor at some point. I just don't want to be forced into it right now.
