Florida Senator Calls for 50 MPG Mandate In Exchange for bailout
Wow, the financial industry gets 700 Billion no questions asked (including one individual company getting over $100b ITSELF), but when the auto industry asks for 25 or 50 billion, they get this. Thats bullshit. If they want 50 mpg, they need to get rid of a ton of safety and emissions rules.
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/17/s...o-receive-aid/ Edit: Here is the senators contact info. http://billnelson.senate.gov/contact/legislation.cfm I'm going to call (Being respectful, of course) and try to talk some sense into them. 50 mpg is ridiculous. |

What a dork. Well if Volt can get its first 50-100 miles on battery and then run on gas the rest of the way it may make it.

After spending 1 trillion+ in a stupid ass gas war our government BETTER help the domestic car industry more then any other. But our government has always been there for the rich ONLY, so who knows what they will do??? All I can say is IF any American car company goes belly up, get ready for REAL HARD TIMES, and the American dollar being worth SQUAT!!! WTF. I am moving to friken Canada.

That senator is a complete moron.
I'm all for better efficiency, but the current requirements imposed by the gov't. have helped put the "Big 3" in the situation they're in. It makes absolutely NO sense. Place stricter requirements on the automanufacturers, while they're struggling to meet current ones, and they're supposed to do this in their current situation?! |

I didn't see this article mention what kind of vehicle this senator drove? Did I miss it? Is he driving a 50MPG electric car?
Secondly, all their security caravans and all that other BS all ride around in heavily armored SUVs that probably get 5mpg. I can't stand hypocrites. |
