Strangest Conversation with Camaro Owner - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I was sitting in a parking lot waiting for someone when I see this middle-aged guy with a moustache standing in front of 7-11 about 50 feet away staring at my car. After 10 mins of uncomfortable staring, he starts strolling over, doing the up and down on my car while putting out his cigarette. Here is how the conversation went:

Guy: "I got one of those".
Me : Nice, what year
Guy: (ignoring my question) Whatchyu do to it?
Me: Just a cat-back and CAI so far
Guy: What brand cat-back?
Me: Borla (and here's where things get weird):
Guy: (Makes face like he smelled something bad, shaking his head)
Me : (Laughing at his directness) "Oh you don't care for Borla?"
Guy: Nope.
(uncomfortable silence)
Me : What do you have?
Guy: SLP. The best. I love it. What intake do you have?
Me : Cold Air Inductions CAI
Guy: (Makes another face and shakes head like I'm an idiot)
Me: Oh - no good?
Guy: Nope. I got K&N. It's the best.
Me : Ok......

I spent the next 5 minutes trying to get out of the conversation and eventually started to roll out. I've talked to hundreds of guys about their cars and never once got a reaction like that!

He's one of those "my stuff is better than yours". I work with a guy like that. I swear one day I'm going to throat punch him.

People like that suck. Even when someone buys something stupid for their car I smile and nod, its their car they are proud of it, whatever. One guy with a bone stock V6 was telling me how it "roars real good" once at a show and then got inside it and started revving it. I just nodded, smiled, agreed and walked back to my SS with headers and straight pipes lol. At no point do I do the "stinky face". (Well, maybe if they had 36" wheels I would...)

We are Camaro brothers after all!

exactly - I always compliment people at meet ups or shows even if I don't like what they've done. He was so absurd it was more funny than aggravating

Sounds like he believes the most well known names are automatically the best in his opinion. He probably didn't know a thing about Borla or CAI Inc. Heck I wouldn't know anything about CAI Inc if it wasn't for their sponsorship & posts here and their ratings in the JRE CAI test.

Actually most camaro ppl I have met are ok, there was a guy who showed me a photo of his Z06 on the phone and freaked out that I recognized it right away and said:
"How the hell do you know the name? This is a really rare limited edition race car that just came out." when it was out for several years

Most guys either don't really know what they have or try to impress me by boosting the stats. I normally just smile, but the conv can turn weird if I point out the facts
I asked this guy who drives a last gen E350 if "It's the turbo 6?" He said:"No this has the 'amg package' so it is the V8"
The car has E350 right on the back, not even the 550...... he may actually believe the "amg track package" swaps the whole engine......

Then there's the Porsche guy who says:"My car can beat your car." as soon as he saw my camaro. He drives a none turbo base Carrera from the 90s......
On a very curvy mountain road maybe, but I'm pretty sure the current gen SS can hold up against most production cars from the 90s even on the track.
Straight line even the current gen base carrera is about the same as the SS. Also I thought the muscle car ppl are suppose to be the ****y ones and german are the reserved ones......

I have a friend who drives a German car ,loves it brags about it and even works at the dealership.
He changes the subject quickly when I ask for stats,1/4 mile , 0-60 etc. He begins to talk about gas mileage and euro leather.

Things have changes , and I think the muscle car guys and girls are the more reserved ones now.
