I should get back about $11K but have to pay $8K for a previous year when I had a fugged up CPA. That would have got me a supercharger and clutch and some suspension parts.

I hear ya... I got my first check on Jan 4 and was shocked when I saw my check. Close to $82 bucks less take home per pay. I highly doubt a merit raise will come close to swallowing that up. God forbid we would have gone over the so called fiscall cliff. I wonder what that would have turned out to be.

Refund? Haven't seen one of those for years ... if I did I guess I might get enough to buy a pair of SS's to place on the side under the Camaro ... refund hahaha

11k?! Man, I wish I could get that back! I'm worried if I'll have enough back to buy the wheels and tires I desperately want.

This might sound conservative, but I'm going to split mine (as well as my bonus) and use some or most to take a year off my loan repayment and put the rest toward future schooling.

All this logical thinking is making my brain hurt! Putting the money in a high interest savings account, using it for school, putting a down payment on a house, etc., is nonsense. The smart thing to do is have your refund check spent before you even have it in your hands. Or, you could do like some of my moronic co-workers. They're already dead broke, they get their check and then they take off for a week or two. This way, they've gained nothing and they're right back where they started.
