Unless there is more to it, he'll probably end up with a nice settlement.

That is awesome! Not only is he gonna get a nice settlement, but man that dealership is gonna have to do a lot of creative thinking to repair their reputation. Possibly try to spin in it in a positive way with some self deprecating humor

Wow. Which sounds better?
$5,600 loss or $2.2 million loss

I Hope A Camaro Dealer Never Have A Buyer Arrested After Price Error
Priority Chevrolet Dealership in Chesapeake, Virginia made a mistake when they sold Danny Sawyer a new Chevrolet Traverse for $5,600 less than the asking price. So what did they do when they realized this mistake? They had Mr. Sawyer arrested for theft. After spending 4 hours in lockup and getting released on bond, Sawyer did the next logical thing: he sued the dealership for 2.2 million dollars. Well, I guess it is possible to get a good deal in this crazy world of ours...

I would sue the police department as well. Arrested before an investigation is not innocent until proven guilty.

You can't sue the cops for arresting someone in possession of what the dealership claimed is a stolen vehicle.
He was released in 4hrs after being determined no evidence of that. The dealer will end up losing on this good but not to the tune of 2.2 million dollars. More like settled in the end for 50k or less. |

I cannot see the video, but my guess is they skewed a tad bit of the information they provided law enforcement. An investigation is as simple as an officer saying "did he steal the product and owe you money?" "yes". Probable cause established, affect the arrest. Investigators do not touch a case until after that person has been processed in jail, then they can decide to drop charges. My guess is, that probably happened.. but was awarded based on the dealerships malicious act. Such as "he agreed to pay the remaining 5k, in exchange to take the car home that evening and has failed to return." While that is still civil, a criminal act could be articulated if they really wanted. The fact that his attorney believes he can get over 2 mil tells me the dealership didn't just make a woopsie and try to cover for it... they probably lied about how it transpired. If you purge yourself and lie as a company and it results in traumatic event as being taken to jail (yes, for 90% of the world... going to jail is extremely traumatic) then I think he deserves every single dime of at least 1 mil. More to the tune of 1.5-2... that dealership will probably never recover either... finally, some good news about a crappy dealership. Every cop knows a dispute like that.. if it was explained properly to them, would still be civil and would not require police involvement.
