I use extra leather conditioner weekly on the left driver side bolster in addition to doing the front seats monthly. I do the rear seats every 2 months.....no worries. Also expect the wear to appear at some point on the seats.

Yes,that is correct 100%.
The part that is chunking off in Vinyl, where the stitching is.

Looking again at the pics in the first post, the leather next to it has severe deformation wrinkles, that are now permanent, indicating very hard compression.

The writing is on the wall as to why this is happening.Hopefully your dealership will look beyond the obvious and take care of you,but I would doubt they would if only 4 or 5 months old,as it is not a manufacturing defect.

If they do,as stated be more careful, and they will be fine.
Mine are 3 1/2 years old and look like new.

Good luck to you

Your regular seats are fine but I think due to the deeper bolstering of the recaros to hold you in this is probably going to be more of a wear issue than the regular seats.

I haven't been to dealer yet. My first oil change is due anytime now and I will give them a squeak sheet when I go in.

That sucks! A good leather conditioner might have helped this from not happening.

there is absolutely no excuse for this.

we tested synthetic leather for ford and had steering wheels installed into cabs in Las Vegas for 40k miles... and when we got them back they were in near mint condition. so something is wrong. maybe the bolster is too soft and shouldn't be able to flex so much? either way, pathetic for a $2k option

+1

GM "leather" sucks...I've always called it pleather. Every GM the the wife and I have had over the last 15 years has had leather and it doesn't stand up to the test of time, even when conditioned and taken care of. I think the only one that had decent real leather was my '06 GTO.

I have Katzkin in my 1SS and it is very high quality, much better than even my GTO.

I don't think gm picks the materials. The supplier picks these and maybe GM pushes for cheaper leather on high volume seats, but surely not these Recaro seats. I blame Recaro or whomever is the supplier. I was amazed how cheap the leather is... It was about $2 per square foot for split grain hides all painted. I can't imagine top grain is more than double. Either way its not much material cost overall to use quality materials or better design for a $2000 option for 2 seats.

My SS bottom already looks bad enough at 500 miles that I plan to buy an extra Gm cover now so I have it later. My 155k mile malibu seats (by faurecia) are holding up great in comparison.

Going in tomorrow morning for my first oil change so we will see what kind of b.s. they try to give me. My local dealership is terrible so wish me luck. So is that area leather or vinyl?

It's vinyl. The only areas on our seats that are actually leather are the middle inserts.

Heck - the armrests aren't even real leather.
