Vert almost 3yrs old does GM have extended warranty?

I got one of the first convertibles built, top is ok and it is the only thing stock on the car.

Any idea if GM has extended the warranty or if you can buy one?

Thanks Allan

Hi Allanski,
I don't know about the extended warranty covering the top in Canada,
I didn't purchase the extended warranty here in Connecticut because it covers everything but the convetible top and top mechanism.
Call your dealer and ask what is covered in purchasing the extended
warranty.
Good luck,
Gio

Hi Allan,
yes you can purchase an extended warranty for the convertibles...I am not sure about yours however, since the rest of the car is not stock.
I have the extended warranty on mine.Mine is completely bone stock.

however with respect to the top,
the canvas is NOT covered
the water management bag is NOT covered
any leaks are NOT covered.

but it apparently covers the frame of the top and the motor and hydraulics of the top mechanism.

GM has extended the warranty on some convertibles that have had top problems. I am one of them but I had to ask my dealer to inquire about it with GM when I was in for a broken 5th bow. I got 4 years from the date of that repair. So mine is covered till 2016 or 81,000 miles. Based on how I drive the date will pass before the miles. Like you I am an early 2011 build Jan 2011. Not sure if the rules differ in Canada and my car is mostly stock. However your performance mods should have no impact on your top in my opinion.

yes zandron,
Lots of USA folks have had their warranties extended to cover the tops...usually called a component coverage letter .
Unfortunately, GM Canada will not issue such.It might have to do with the slightly different laws in this country.
I have asked GM Canada for this extended warranty to no avail.
GM Canada and GM USA are 2 different corporate entities and each make their own policy with regards to such items such as this and how each looks after their customers.

This is what I was told as well.

After having a new top put on this week I called GM to have my top warranty extended and they said "no way". Who do I call to get the top warranty extended?

I am thinking of getting the GM warranty to cover the mechanics of the top and all the other stuff it covers but I have concerns with the canvas. Is it worth getting the GM Protection Plan warranty for these Camaros?

Hi B-52 Guns,

The new top should have the 12 month/12,000 mile component warranty, and any GM Protection Plan can be purchased before the bumper to bumper warranty expires. Please let me know if you have additional questions, or would like me to take a look at the VIN regarding the vehicle's specifics. Thank you!

Allanski: If you're looking for info about GM extended warranty coverage, this is the site:
http://www.gmprotectionplan.com/ourproducts.html

You'll need to check whether it applies to / covers you in Canada or have the Chevy rep chime in.

Hi B-52 Guns!

The warranty is automatic. Your dealership will be able to provide further information for you if you wanted it in writing.

I haven't got my top replaced yet. I tryed last summer and it kept getting dragged out. It should get done as soon as I get it out this spring. When I started talking to GM I was offered a 5 year component coverage letter on my top.

Component Coverage Letter

Jessica,
I am reading more and more of some convertible owners getting a "5 year Component Coverage Letter" for their tops. What is the process or the requirements for me to get one for my car? I am losing sleep over this top.

I will say the customer serivce person (from this web site) who assisted me was less than helpful and I didn't actually get anything going (including my coverage letter) until I sent an email in to chevy via their web page. I got a call back in a day or two and have been working with this person since Sept. They were also not able to get my top replaced before my car went into storage for the winter due to the cost of the replacement and chevy being unwilling to pay for it. I'll start up again in March. My component coverage letter isn't really worth anything if I can't get chevy to agree to pay for the repair.

Ken
