What is giving someone the "move" first worth?
Trivia -
When you are doing a SAFE acceleration contest with a friend, the clever hotrodder with the slower car might ask for the "move". This is where he doesn't launch until he sees you moving. Simple right? What's a few feet advantage? 5 car lengths on the big end of the quarter. On a street car, it's hard to redlight on a PRO-.500 tree. That mean the instant you see a light, it takes you 1/2 second to get rolling. Worse if you're watching another car instead of a christmas tree. Each 0.1 second is worth a car length in the 13-11 second ET ranges. This has been a public service announcement by Cheaters Anonymous.

Um.... A pro tree is .400 unless you are running NHRA super street or IHRA hot rod.
Only a full tree is .500.

Yes, a normal pro tree is .400. There is a .500 pro tree used by heavy vehicles.
A sportsman tree can be "guessed" at. A pro cannot.

OK, to simplify: Giving someone the move is equal to giving them 5 cars on the start heads up. It's that big of difference. I was just trying to back up my personal experience with something you might have seen before at a dragstrip.

Any time, distance or speed lost at the starting line is greatly exaggerated at the finish line. The quickest car does not always win.

I "give them the hit" all the time. Its not really an advantage against people like me. A half a fender maybe on a good day, a bumper on a bad day. If you have no official to give the go like a flagger or tree then this is the way to go. I would rather do it this way than honks. If I beat you then theres no excuses.....
