Or a turbo cam.... the LS7 is better than your stock unit but you can make more power with an aftermarket cam.

I'd opt for #4....use your stock heads along with a custom specced turbo cam to fit your set up. Unless you're shooting for four digit power numbers, LS3/L99 heads are pretty damn strong as delivered by the General. Yes, you can pick up a few ponies on a mild build by porting the heads, but you can also pick up about the same HP increase with a measly one more lb of boost.
To answer your question though, the LS7 cam is actually a pretty good mild boost cam. It has the exact same specs as the vaunted LS9 cam, but with a 2.5 degree narrower LSA. Given the choice between the two, I'd use the LS7 cam before the LS9 cam on just about any build. Option two gets my vote if I have to choose between those two. |

And the reason I'm getting the cnc heads is because my stock head are not reusable so I might as well get the better ones

How much are the ported heads vs stockers? One good thing about the LS7 cam is that you can use stock LS3 valve springs or at least fairly cheap single springs. I'm guessing your ported heads will come with upgraded aftermarket springs though.

I would keep it basic, save money on stuff like that. Turbos will easily make 800+ without dumping a ton into the heads/cam/etc. Spend the money on clutch, drivetrain, tires, suspension, fuel system and a good bottom end.
If your budget isn't limited then buy some nice aftermarket heads and a custom spec'd cam.

Westcoast cylinder heads will completely port/polish and rebuild your factory heads for the cost of the others.
Have your tuner spec a cam for you and then let WCCH know what you want and send them your heads. Turn around is pretty quick too. New valves, springs, etc and you are set for a long time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
