Easy answer:

They are not the same engine

The size is the same but the internal parts are not.

You will love the auto/ l99 combo when it comes to throw down time.
Remove tc, shut ac off, roll up windows, load up trany with left foot keep right foot slightly depressed. When light turns push right foot down as you remove left foot from brake and watch the ls3 in side mirror then rearview as he/she trys to get their shifts organized.

L99s aren't VVT. They have AFM but that's not the same thing.

The LS3 revs higher therefore the camshaft in it must be slightly different than the L99 and that could make all the difference right there.

One spins clockwise, the other counterclockwise ......that could make the difference...I'm not sure which is which cause mines spinning in both directions

Agree that AFM and VVT are not the same, but the L99 has both.

Funny, I've never had to get my "shifts organized". Mostly because I'm not retarded and know how to drive.

For those of us that have the skill to shift and turn a car, we do pretty good.the LS3/M6 is the best choice for those of us that see past the straight line spectrum.

Hey Doc, I would rather have my LS3 and NOT give up 26hp in order to have a automatic anyday of the week....
