One-piece DSS aluminum drive shaft limits
While on the phone with LPE to discuss oil leaking issues I'm having with their 9.5" differential, they asked what top speeds I run the car and said not to take a 1 piece drive shaft beyond 150 with 4.10 gears as it will eventually suffer a catastrophic failure. Can anyone else confirm this?
I've got an email into DSS. Hope it's rumor as I just bought the one piece shaft to match my LPE differential. |

How tall are your rear tires... 29.something... That's what I think the factory tire is...

ok, then ask Frank if the shaft will handle roughly 8000 rpm.... Drive shaft rpm....They offer the high speed balancing for a bit more to my knowledge... up to or just over 9000 shaft rpm....
The formula is top speed * 336 * gear ratio /tire height.... In your case, I used 29.0"... so, 170*336*4.10 / 29.0 =8075 shaft RPM's... This is from the DSS website... Ask Frank about it... We will need to know the following:
To check for critical speed, calculate this equation: Top speed x 336 (a constant) x rear ratio (like 4.10), then divide it by the tire height (28” tall tire). Hope this helps

actually, 8165 is the critical shaft rpm for 170 mph.... based on a 28.68 inch tire height...and 4.10 gears
I looked it up just to be sure....
