Removing Front Sway Bar - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have read a number of other threads on this subject, and I have seen opinions ranging from "no problem" to "OMG, you'll kill yourself". Not really interested in a lawyer kind of reply, but rather an analogy to the handling characteristics of another vehicle.

I have a raggedy 2002 Silverado 1500 extended cab that I DD, and I'm wondering how a 5th Gen w/o a front sway bar would drive/handle compared the truck. My 5th Gen is basically only driven to/from the drag strip and on the drag strip.

I have no personal experience driving a Camaro with no front sway bar but I think you will be OK. Just don't take any hard turns. The weight transfer will be good for drag racing though.

It drives very much like stock until you get into hard cornering. There the body rolls pretty badly without the front sway. Just like the 4th gen f-bodies did. For a street/strip car that is not daily driven you should be fine.

I'm not sure you need to remove it. I run the stock sway on my car and former member Z1 Dunn. Z1 dunn has been 1.43 ave 1.45-46 on M&H dr.

As a follow-up I wanted to let you know that I removed the front sway bar, and quite frankly, I don't notice that the car handles one iota different than it did with the bar. I've tested the handling pretty aggressively, making quick lane changes on the Interstate at up to 100 MPH, and notice no difference. So I guess I won't "shoot my eye out" because of no front sway bar.

Just remove one end link to try it before making the decision

I see you already did it, I guarantee if you try any quick corners or emergency maneuvers on wet pavement you will get a different result as the car will oversteer.

Drive it normal and you will be fine

Car does not leave the garage in rainy weather, as it has drag radials on the rear which would scare me more than the sway bar. Car is not DD, and only is driven to/from the track. I've put a total of 10,000 miles on the car since I bought it nearly 3 years ago. Any vehicle, front sway bar or not, is going to be squirrely on wet pavement.

I'm with you on the low mileage thing. Camaro is not my DD and I didn't break 2000 miles in the first year of owning it.

For a drag car, whatever gets you weight transfer in a safe manner (especially your FREE mod) is cool. Just don't drive it around.
