As for the statements on the 2010's getting a 5 star rating.

This article:
http://gmhightechperformance.automot...-ss/index.html
contains this quote:
"The up side is that "F-bodfather" Scott Settlemire assures us that the 2010 Camaro will meet the 5-Star Safety Rating"

And, in this thread from right here...
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116
...we have this quote
"'Id also point out that this car--and all others we're developing--MUST have a 5-star crash rating in all tests, bar none. Period. That means that the car has to be engineered properly to comprehend that, and that adds weight."

Now, how do you spin a statement then ends in "MUST have a 5-star crash rating in ALL test, bar none. PERIOD."
Oh SNAP!

So is the car going to get heavier next year?

You can have a 30 star crash rating but if you hit a semi head on you're still probably gonna die! Everything in life is a chance. You either buck up and live life or go bury yourself in a tornado shelter with your radio and freeze dried food.

I hope the Camaro never gets 5 stars all around. They never upgraded the 4th gens, why mess with these. They might lose 3 sales nation wide.

5 stars...whoa man only a 10% chance of serious injury.

4 stars....holy jesus man an 11% chance of serious injury. I aint buying that junk. LOL

Please.

It's not ABOUT the number of stars.

It about the way they assured us it would be 5 stars and it was NOT. The way the weight was justified by all the stars it would get.

If it's 4 stars, it is what it is... just don't promise stuff that can't be delivered. I think that's all we ask.

Meanwhile, MSRP just went up $300 because they can't make the rear parking nanny an option.

Do you guys realise your getting all huffy over them crashing 1, yes thats right 1 camaro into a brick wall. Furthermore you guys realise there is more than 1 crash test company out there. What if it gets 5 from someone else? Not saying it will, but what then?

You want the weight gone.

Get rid of the 20"s get rid of the IRS, get rid of the 14" brembos, make the car smaller, get rid of the true dual exhaust, and lose the side airbags, oh and ditch the nice power seats for some crap quality we had in the 4th gens too.

Car should be back around 4th gen weight with the same ratings.

I mean you guys do know its heavier because its bigger and produced on the same platform as the G8, which is a sedan?

Again I dont understand how people actually worry about this when they meet government standards in the first place, then they dont even test every car. Its not required.

You sure do complain a lot...

Don't you have anything productive to do?

Could be 19% vs 1% too!

I wonder if GM could ask for a re-test. Since they'd be providing the car, I don't see why not. I guess they'd have to have a realistic expectation of a different result to do that, but they did expect 5 stars to begin with. My guess is that they have people going over the results and if they think it was a fluke, they'll resubmit another car for testing, otherwise I'd expect some minor modifications to the 2011 models.

Yes, you have to read the fine print though. For every 500 lbs difference between the two vehicles, 1 star is deducted from the lighter car and 1 star is added to the heavier car.

Smart car = 1200 lbs
Camaro = 3800 lbs

Smart car rating = 4 stars
Camaro rating = 4 stars

During crash with Smart car and Camaro (the Camaro in this instance is 2600 lbs heavier):

Smart car rating = 0 stars
Camaro rating = 9 stars

3800 lbs is very heavy for a car, from the pictures I've seen of high speed wrecks on this forum, this car seems to maintain cockpit strength, but crumple in the other parts (which contrary to popular opinion is good because that means the car is absorbing some of the force, and is not all being transmitted to the driver).

Just my 2 cents

my other car has a 3 stars and like a 4star.. i got hit by a semi truck on the highway went under it.. I was fine.. seen guy roll his and walk away.. seen guys hit a gaurd rail head on at 70mph and was fine walk away not even scratches..
cars are alot safer then they use to be.. 4 stars nowadays is a great rating..
they did up the standard because as car got so safe everyone was getting 5 stars.. so test now are more strict..
and personally I wouldnt be surprise if some car companies are sending in ringers like they do on performance testing...

I wish the Camaro had 5 stars. It doesn't, but I'm not going to sell my car because of it. My only issue with it (I think I said this before too somewhere ) is that with the ground up design, it should have gotten 5 stars. Every car manufacturer knows the ratings that both NHTSA and IIHS have so it's like having the answers to the test. I'm sure GM crashed a lot of these inhouse, and if it did not live up to their promises, you can bet the bean counters said no to fixing the issue considering GM's financial state and the fact they didn't want to delay the car any longer.

I am very glad that it got a 5 star side impact rating. I am looking forward to seeing how well it does in the IIHS' tests assuming they conduct a crash test of this car.

Not the Smart car this is a Honda Fit (Bigger / Safer). FYI, No fatalities the driver survived as only the passenger side is caught between the trucks. Basically the car was cut in half from rear to front. I don't think his under shorts made it through this accident.
