how bad is the winter here?
Hey guys,
so this is going to be my first winter here in southern Maryland and im curious...on average how bad is the winter? now keep in mind im from NY so ive seen my fair share of heavy snow. my real concern is driving the SS in it. does it snow a lot here? should i be looking into winter tires or will all seasons do the trick? |

I have done just fine in all-season tires in the past. It's the other drivers you will have to worry about.

yeah i've had no problem running the stock pirellis or invos during the winter. it's all about how cautious of a driver you are. you have to worry about other drivers, but that's the case anytime you leave your driveway.

If you're from NY you should be familiar with how the Pzeros handle in the cold and how they do in the snow. We get a lot of "dustings" here and every once in a while get a few inches. For the most part those few inches get cleaned up right away and they will salt the shit out of roads to make it "safe". Safe is in quotations because now I have rust issues under my car. We do get some heavy snow once in a while too.
But like stated before your main concern will be other drivers. We can't drive worth shit in this area. Also my county likes to plow the roads early AM just before rush hour for when it snows. So if you work a night shift like myself, you will be having some fun/issues driving home on a day that snowed. They don't plow while roads are busy unless they anticipate a lot. I live next to one of those facilities and these dudes will just line up for hours, waiting for the early AM and just watch me slide home. |

Just watch out for the fools. They will still drive 70 mph in the snow.

With all the moisture this year, I bet it has much more snow than the past. Everyone has pegged it right. You know the drill. Leave early, drive with sense, and watch others. No problem.

I've lived in NY for 13 years and in Michigan for 10 years before that. However, some of the biggest storms I can remember was when I lived in Newport News, VA. 14" and 16", both in winter '89. While unusual, it does happen. Good ole nor'easters, anywhere up the coast.
There are 3 kinds of people who drive in the snow. Those that go too fast, those that go too slow, and the rest of us who try to stay the hell away from the other two.

The three common problems here are........
People don't know how to drive in bad weather...... The DOT down here sucks at dealing with clearing the roads (lack of proper equipment) We seem to get a lot more ice than up in NY
