Mine get washed by themselves with a bit of dawn soap, and dry on cool in the dryer. If my husband has just washed his work clothes I will run an empty washer through before I throw my microfibers in. He's a logger and his clothes are chock-full of pine needles, dirt, rocks, and wood chips which are death to microfibers (I learned the hard way).
I just tried someone's method of spraying spray wax over the wet car before drying. Works great! I use a blower to get the greater majority of water off the car, then spray down with spray wax, then wipe it down with microfiber. Ta-da!

That's why I cut it down. I have used them this way for 3 years with nary a problem. I sometimes will use just a few drops of liquid bounce instead, but either way, I've never had one lick of trouble, and I use the blonde border free towels from Zaino. I guess if I think about it, I'm actually using about 1/4 of a Bounce sheet, because I cut it twice.

I buy my microfiber towels from Costco, you get a big bundle of them. If one gets trashed (the wife always steals them for use around the house) I can just throw it away.
I wash them using hot water and OxyClean. I am amazed how clean they get. They look new.

Has anyone tried one of the Shamwow type of towels for drying the bulk of the water? I like how much and how quick they remove the water. I have not seen any signs of blemish from them.

Then you aren't using the right ones. I can dry my entire car with one towel.

I watched a video somewhere, I think it was The Junkman that specifically stated that shammys are bad for your paint. When you're dragging the shammy across your paint to absorb the water any particles that might still be on the vehicle or in the water are scratching your clear coat.

Personally I use microfiber drying towels and the leaf blower and I've kept the swirls away so far!

Frank, that's great!!! I hope, however, that all of your detailing is accomplished by helium- infused feather nymphs, floating in a hyperbaric nitrogen chamber... 'cause otherwise, it doesn't show true dedication!

(Thanks for being you... gotta go kill myself now...)

Been there, Sister... I have pulled over on the side of the road and actually used bottled water touch up some parts of the car that (gasp) got spots on it!

I do wash it a lot, average three times per week. I live in a rural area, drive a lot of miles, but I also enjoy washing it (If you like what you're doing, it's not work!). However, I've never sweated towels on a molecular level... as long as it is soft and not greasy, gritty, or foul, I use it to dry the car. Always, have, always will... and my cars have always looked great.

For washing I buy any soap at Advance that has a picture of a car on the label.
For drying , a leaf blower and good old Turkish towels.
I only use microfibers for waxing, but I dont pay suckers price either.

I use Blackfire Microfiber cleaner. Wash on warm or cold, dry low. No fabric softener.

I use to pre soak in a bucket with APC and hot water, then soak in fresh bucket with Woolite. They just didn't seem to be getting clean. On a whim, I did small load of towels in the wash machine with Woolite, cold water and air dried. I actually hung them outside. They haven't looked cleaner or felt softer since they were new.

Just something to consider.

They do however have a useful life for your paint. Once they've graduated to non-paint status, I usually rotate them to door jams or engine bay wipes.
