ZR1 clutch noise
I just had a ZR1 twin disc clutch and flywheel installed in my 2010 SS. Pedal effort is close to stock, it shifts and feels good...but...it rattles when in neutral and clutch disengaged. The rattles go away when the pedal is depressed, and I've noticed if I release the pedal slowly the noise is less, but still there.
I searched some Corvette forums and get different responses. Some say the noise is normal, others say their clutch doesn't make any noise. All the components are new so I doubt it's a bad TO bearing. Production tolerances and variances aside, how can some clutches make the noise (LOUD) and other not make ANY noise? Is there any adjustments that can be made to reduce the noise?

Most twin disk clutches that have free floating discs will chatter in this way. There's no way to make the noise go away completely, but its usually more prominent on new clutches, and can become less noticeable as the clutch gets broken in.
On our DYAD dual disk clutch, we solve the chattering by driving the second friction disc off of the first one, rather than floating on the transmission input shaft. |

Had a ZR1 clutch and it was whisper quiet. If it's a higher pitch grinding sound then it is probably a throwout bearing. Mine ate several and then I finally got rid of that clutch. Snow performance Meth and LS9R clutch are my only regrets on my build.

I had a ZR1 clutch, it was quiet but didn't last more than 5,000 miles (mostly at the drag strip).
Bought the Centerforce DYAD. |

Who did you get the LS9R clutch from? What did you use to replace it?

Katech maybe... It was 4 years ago now. I went with the Street slayer triple/BC3. Very pricey but I put that clutch in the car in july of 2012 and have since thrown 40k miles and 1200 HP at it so it has been worth every dollar.
