Considering Upgrading to the Kong 2650

Good morning all,

My current set up is an LS3 with an an LSA blower strapped to the top of it. I'm at just under 10 pounds of peak boost with a 2.55" upper pulley. I'm running E85 and my injector duty cycle hits about 60%, and have a DSX auxiliary pump. Car made 626hp and 600ftlb of torque. All the engine internals are stock, and it has stock cylinder heads.

What do you guys think of a blower upgrade? I like the idea of the 2650 because it's a bigger blower and theoretically more efficient. Could I expect to see any power increase at the same boost level? I like the additional overhead space that this blower gives in case I want to turn up the boost down the road.

All in all, its just a higher quality blower than the stock LSA, and I feel like it would be a good replacement.

I appreciate any opinions and input.

Thanks!
Jake

I would not do a 2650 on a stock 376 motor. It takes more horsepower to turn that 2650 than a 1900. If you were 416 or bigger than sure go with the bigger blower. If i were you i would just do a x port on the 1900.

I agree with tartagliazl1, the 2650 will take more HP to run and for over $5000 for the blower and incidentals, you could do a lot to get more performance out of your SBE and 1.9L. On the flip side making the same whp on lower boost levels will keep IAT's down and help prevent knock on regular gas and it pulling timing. I wouldn't be able to stay at the current whp if I had a 2650 on mine, i'd have to turn it up til I blew it up!

I'm in the opposite camp...I say go with the 2650. Both blowers require HP to turn them, how much more or less...who knows? Dollars to donuts that the 2650 at 10psi will eclipse the LSA by a substantial margin. A fully ported and maxed out LSA might get you to the 750-800whp range, but that is about the limit. Sure, there are probably cases out there where somebody has gotten one higher, but not on a SBE LS3....

The 2650 is going to make more power, psi for psi, over the LSA. If you think you'll eventually want more power....go 2650....and don't look back.

We gained 113 RWHP from a ported Jorkerz 1.9L LSA blower to the Kong 2650 on a stock cube LSA (878 RWHP,6L90,CTS-V),the extra 3 psi of boost played a role for the extra power even if we lowered the pulley ratio vs the 1.9L LSA.

I don't think the DSX is going to get you very far on the Kong no more than a ported LSA. If you do a fuel upgrade then yes there will be some sizable gains If I were going a 2650 I would go with a Magnuson it's a bit more efficient and the lid has a much better cooling capacity than the optional Kong lid. If your goals are 800hp or less a ported 1.9 LSA is hard to beat.

You are missing a Key component that will easily add another 100 RWHP with no supercharger changes that is a Cam package like our Rough Idle blower cam.

You are no where near needing a 2650 unless your goal is 800 Plus RWHP which you would already have a cam for.

Ted.

Thanks Ted!

At what point do you think I should consider doing some internal strengthening? I'm all stock bottem end right now. I put down 626whp on a hot day out here in Nebraska. making just under 10 pounds of boost right now.

With proper fuel system, proper fuel, proper tuning, the Stock bottom end LS3 have been reliable over 700 RWHP and as high as 800 RWHP on racing fuel.

We do not have a way of knowing the current condition of the engine or what it has been through without tearing it down and inspecting, so it is really hard to predict how long it will last.

I look at it this way, what do you have to lose buy playing with the current engine but being prepared for a failure?
