My LS3 M6 is getting 17.4mpg. usually doing 70-75 on Highway in 6th gear. Figure thats decent? I have no idea how u would see anywhere near 20-22MPG. Im not hard on the gas, but not easy either.Anybody had good results with Cold air intakes regarding gas mileage?

How do you make it go so slow?

Yea that 6th gear is awesome. Just made a 5 hour drive the other day traveling home from business trip and went just about 400 miles before filling up. I was going a lot faster than 60 too.

Just did a 1550 mile road trip thru Texas and New Mexico running 80-85 most of the miles.
Averaged 17.0 with calculator,,, DIC shows 16.8 but has never been reset since car was new.
I'm sure 60-65 would have used less gas , but with 75 mph speed limits why even try for mpg's.

1 Fill tank
2 Write down miles on odometer.
3 Drive till tank is almost empty then fill up again.
4 Record gallons pumped and miles on odometer.
5 Subtract miles from step 2 from miles on step 4.
6 Divide result by gallons pumped. This is as close as you're going to get.
You're welcome

I use an app called Road Trip Lite (free) that does all that for me. I'm sure there are others. Best I've seen is a pretty consistent 24.1 on the way and from Indy and that was this year with the cam.

I did a little trip the other day, filled up as I headed out, drove 256 miles, mostly highway but about 15% two lane, and including a few times of tickling the ponies just because I luv to. I filled her back up at the same station, and she took exactly 10 gallons of 93 octane. we can all do the math.

There is more stretching of the truth in these SS mpg threads than any other.

14.5 all city driving and 21.5 all highway + or - 1 anything more or less are extreme driving examples or are complete

I will add the only way to get high 20s is to drive it to get that mileage. Put your foot in it and you're in the teens. Every engines different. some get better mileage than others. drive it around in 4th @30 6th @55 and you will get great mileage. I was told by my tuner that driving it around in these gears might cause it to load up so now i drive it in 3rd @30 and 5th @55 6th @60 The cars more fun and I don't have to shift for traffic in town as much.

lol

30 mpg in an SS? I seriously doubt it. I squeezed 32 mpg out of my Solstice GXP, by being very careful, very very careful. That was a four cylinder car with variable valve timing among other things.

But let's look at your "14.5 all city driving and21.5 all highway + or - 1 anything more or less are extreme driving examples or are complete " standpoint, objectively.

14.5 city, +/- 1 mpg. In other words a range of 13.5 to 15.5 mpg.

So 16 or 17 mpg is extreme or BS? Why? Not all 'city' driving is stop and go in gridlock. And if you do nothing but stop and go, you're getting worse than 13.5 mpg. I can drive in any 'city' at 3 am and probably have some good MPG. I can drive the same route at 5 pm and get pretty crappy MPG.

I always was suspicious about city MPG. I don;t know what their criteria is. It's very vague, and then when you toss in people's own definitions, it's vaguer still. But all cars get zero mpg when they are stopped.

21.5 highway +/- 1 mpg, in other words 20.5 to 22.5 mpg highway. The 1SS is rated at 24 mpg highway with a manual trans. Why is 23 mpg "extreme"? I routinely get a displayed 26 or 27 mpg highway in my LS3 when doing 60 mph on the highway. That's not resetting while going, either, which brings me to the final thing I want to mention:

the DIC displays average, not peak MPG. if you went down the highway and had 22 mpg displayed and then drove through a town, bumping you down to 15 mpg displayed, then went back on the highway, you are now tossing in all the time stamps during which you had 15 mpg, while you're creating new ones at 60 mpg, which are higher. If you're now displaying 19 mpg, you're not "getting" 19 mpg. Your car is calculating 19 mpg as your new 'average'

So how come getting the advertised highway mpg is "extreme'?

60 on the highway in an SS is an extreme driving example.

EDIT: And anything more than 14.5 in the city at whatever time of the day is just sad and I certainly wouldn't admit to it.
