Easy underhood "fan on" and "IC pump on" switches
No pics...sorry but it is incredibly easy to install these two switches. Get two simple on/off toggles with two poles as a circuit interrupt. The fan switch is easily situated near the fuse box and the 12v+ lug is on the front of the fuse box. Strip back the black finishing tape from the fan connector and scotchlock on the light blue wire for the low speed fans (they both turn on). Run a 14-16ga wire from the scotchlock to one of the poles of the switch and the other pole of the switch to the 12v+ lug on the front of the fuse box...one done. The intercooler pump switch is a little more difficult as you must remove the belly pan and remove the connection to the underside of the IC pump. Strip back the black tape on the wiring harness to the IC pump...3 wires...2 light brown and one black. Use a flashlight to see the pin connection numerals embossed in the pump as pin 1 is the switched 12v source (far right light brown/tan wire on my plug) and it is the wire you need to scotchlock with a 14-16ga wire and run up towards the jump stud near the driver's shock tower. Same deal as the fan switch...one wire from the IC pump scotchlock to a pole on the toggle. Run a wire from the 12v positive lug(it unscrews with a 13mm socket to reveal a stud) to the other pole of the toggle. That's it. Ask questions if anything seems confusing. Every ZL1 owner that spends time at the dragstrip needs to do this.
Well, unless they just do it through HP Tuners like I do. |

Curious... Why the low speed wire and not high speed?

Amperage. I also have the ic pump on the same circuit. Plus, I only make one run per hour, so I really don't need the extra air. After running the fan and ic pump for 15 minutes, the air through the radiator/ ic is as cool as the ambient air.

Can you do that without tuning the car? I've got HPT Pro, but don't want to ditch my warranty quite yet.

Might want to at least throw a fuse inline. Just sayin'... Fires are no fun. Personally, I am paranoid and put in diodes, too...
