So you're at the traffic light, the road is icey and you're driving a 426 HP manual rear wheel drive. How do you move forward without riding the clutch or burning it? Thanks!

I don't think there is a stock answer other than practice.
Just like taking off regularly if you're new to a manual, take it easy
and you'll get the hang of it in no time at all.

Now taking off on an incline on ice and snow with a manual transmission is a m&*%^#$(@&#r regardless of how well and familiar you are

So avoid
getting into that particular situation if at all possible...

I remember being in NY when there was ice and slowly giving my car gas and sliding into the curb!

Those were the days!

Now, we take the 4x4 when we go play in the snow...

I don't know how the clutch engagement is on the Camaro, but I never hit the gas through the first gear and always try to feather the clutch to engage on it's own into first and then shift quickly into second- what will hurt you will be having to hit the gas at all, especially on a slope say at a red light.

Tires.

I've driven an F-body since 2000 every winter we've had and Illinois Winters are not exactly sunny and warm.

With the right tires it's not even a problem. Pick up some blizzacks and it won't matter at all.

Traction control works wonders. My 02'( the few times I got caught in it) worked awsome.

The question is related to clutching correctly, not to tires per se. I remember riding the clutch slightly last night in my other car because the car wouldn't move forward immediately (don't know why, but there wasn't any ice/snow), usually my foot is completely off the clutch as soon as I'm moving. Then it got me wondering how do you move really slowly in a manual rear wheel drive car?

Feathering... slowly engage let it roll...engage some more to increment speed.

What do I know though..I only got 112K out of a stock clutch with ~50 passes.

I would add that you should be able to let the clutch out slowly and not have to add any throttle at all. Try it in the parking lot. It works. Car will move slowly with your foot completely off the gas. This may help. Also keep your traction control on.
