Camaro's don't play well with flat tires..?

Hey all,

So I am in the process of ordering a 2012 2SS Camaro and was told that they do not come with a spare tire because apparently you can not put the spare tire on yourself anyway because the breaks are too big. This is concerning to me because Ive gotten many flat tires in my life and have grown accustomed to changing them myself without a problem... I'd actually be embarrassed if i had to call AAA/road side assistance just for a flat tire! They do offer the option to have a spare tire/wheel put in the trunk for an extra $150 or so, but if I will no be able to put the tire on myself I do not see the point in having it at all. So instead I guess they provide a patching kid. The problem is that if you end up damaging your tire severely enough then that "patch kit" won't help at all. I'd love to hear what other Camaro drivers have to say about this and if there is a way to change a flat tire yourself and to bypass the problem? And if there is not a way to bypass the problem then what other solutions are there?

Lol... There is a spare option and yes, you can put it on yourself. Lol. Who ever told you that you can't is off their rocker.

... I'm not sure if the SS has a spare option or not. Funny you say you'd be embarrassed. I had to do just that when I had my RX8. Called roadside assist... he was like WTF a flat??? I just said "I know I know... No spare" and he laughed and flatbedded my car. all for a flat tire. I don't have a spare now either... but I do have a nice little air pump.

you are right Jason, no spare option for the SS. There is a guy on ebay that sells a kit though. Large spacer so the doughnut tire will fit.. but it's like 500 bones... NO thanks.

That was one reason I decided to go with the 2LT RS, for the spare compact wheel & tire option.(even though in my heart I still lust for a 2SS...LOL)
As mentioned above, if you have major tire damage, that stinkin' inflator kit is not gonna do a whole heJJ of a lot of good.

The E-Bay spare wil not fit the newer cars with the roller skate brakes!
You can order a front wheel and tire and strap it in the trunk if you like.
There is a thread on here that has the GM part numbers for the jack and lug wrench that will fit the car.

I have the ebay guys spare tire for my 2SS, it fits in the tire well fine and can be put on front or back axle on the 2010. It is a donut tire, just to get you out of trouble, get you home or to a tire store. All SS should have a spare, just in case.

I just bought an extra front SS wheel/tire from someone...$200, Electric scissor-jack from jegs...$60, and have a long-handled 1/2" ratchet & socket for the lugs.

I heard that if you actually use the patch kit it destroys your $500 tire pressure sensor.

Unless I hear different I'm just calling RSA

That's what I use for my extended road trips. Extra front tire and wheel fits in the trunk. Do a search on the topic.

The biggest problem with the having any spare is that the SS comes with two different wheel sizes, one on the front, and one on the back. You would have to choose which wheel you have for a spare, and would still have to call AAA or GM roadside if one of the other two tires blew.

You are wrong sir. The front and rear tires are different widths but the EXACT same height. Spare tires are usually a smaller diameter so I wouldn't put it on the rear anyway. If you get a flat in the rear put a stock front back there and put the spare on front.
The kit I put together were the same size as my tires, so I could put it on anywhere.

Not so- you can run a full size front tire and wheel on the rear.
