Burnouts at the drags.
Hey gang im seeing alot of old time mistakes on some of the pics your posting. When runing your cars at the drags with treaded tires to get your best times, AVOID THE WATER!!!!!!! I know you see the other cars do it and it looks cool, but the water is for slicks. On treaded tires it gets up in the tread and runs down and puddles as you sit at the light. Even if its ever so slight-it will cause a worse take of than if you kept them dry. Do dry burnouts instead youll have much better times. Good Luck.

If you go to the track and actually go through the water.... You shouldn't be going to the track.

Lots and lots of guys with street tires go right through the water and do their burnout. They throw water all over the place and then it drips all over the track for the next car in line.
After watching a Dodge Challenger R/T throw water all over the track, I politely told the owner (while parked next to him in the staging lanes) he should avoid the water to do his burnout. So what did he do on his next run? He drove right into the middle of the water box and did his burnout throwing water everywhere. Some guys just won't listen even when you tell them not to do it. |

when i was at the track on friday i noticed that the starter kept sweeping out the waterbox to the side and made it impossible for anybody using the left lane to avoid the water. as luck would have it i got left lane twice. I made it a point to go through the wet area as slow as possible and then do a small burnout in the dry area to clean off the dirt and water. point is that sometimes you have no choice.

At ESTA dragway in Cicero NY, you have to drive through the water to get to the stage area. At least they are liberal with the water and don't spray for guys with street tires.

must be a tight area, at the track in NH you can drive right around it.

Maybe not dumb, maybe just not in the know. If I didn't read any of this here, I would NOT have known that seeing I've NEVER been to the track to drag, only to drive...So...
However, after being told, then still doing it, well - that's dumb!

Yeah.. some tracks, you just can't avoid it. Pittsburgh Raceway Park is the same. There is no feasibly way to get around the water box.
drag radials though can still benefit from the water box, and they are "treaded" tires. Also, do not do your burn out IN the waterbox. you should be just on the edge and do your burn out, and then keep the tires going and let go of the brakes and keep the burnout going. i usually stop about halfway from the burnout box to the pre-stage beam. this makes sure all the extra debris and water gets off the tires.

It's not so funny if your the next guy in that lane. If the track crew were doing their jobs they would not be allowing that to happen.
