Pro charger for track use?
Anybody using a pro charger for track use?? Wondering if heat is an issue? How does it perform?

Anything longer than a 1/4 stright would be considered a long WOT event which could pop the motor due to piston rings end gap being so tight from the factory. This was mentioned by the procharger guy on here.
If you want to keep reliability stay NA, if you add a procharger you might run into issues, just expect them if you are ok with this go for it. |

N/A for me all day. I would have got a 1SS to modify for high horsepower straight runs. But if i'm doing corners in a 1LE, we got all the power we could need going thru a turn. Build these N/A with 500-550whp kind of like a 5th gen z28 and its over

Right out of the box, I had DSX Tuning convert me to Flex Fuel and he tuned it. No other changes, and Bam! 460 RWHP. I like it : ) Since then, TSP LTH, X-Pipe, MSD Atomic Air, K&N CAI, and it's a beast. There's no doubt in my mind that a cam swap gets me to 550 RWHP or more. That's plenty for a track car. I'm going to hit every event I can and work on my driving and car setup. No horsepower mod will make up for that, or I'd do it, lol!

Spend that money to hire a good instructor. You'll go faster than any procharger.

Yes, professional instruction and dedicated track wheels/tires are the better investment.

Beat it. LOL..
To the OP I believe that ProCharger has a new competition race setup that might hold up. I haven't seen a lot of info yet because it's still new though. Should see more info soon I believe.

Thanks., not seeing many mods being done as warranty still in play.. from what I understand the lt1 does not respond well to cam and header changed like the ls3. I've seen some doing intake header and tune with e 85 getting good results. Curious if anyone has modded a na lt1 here with good results? I already know I'm the weakest link to going fast. For me braking at high speed was the most uncomfortable on track . Just not used to it yet. Not something you really experience on the street. Thinking of good na mods down the road? Intake? Headers, heads, etc.

Given your statement above: getting more power should be the last thing on your list. Mod the driver first and get a few solid seasons behind your belt first. You won't regret it. Otherwise you may become this "menace guy" who everyone hates at track events: slow like molasses in the twisties then sprints on the straights and doesn't allow anyone (faster overall) to pass. Please don't become this guy - there are already too many of them around.

^^^ this. I can't tell you how many modded z06's and GT3's ive seen passed by Miatas at track events.
A well driven 1LE can hang with about anything on track. No way would I consider adding a blower to this car. If anything, cam, exhaust, e85= better bang for buck and no cooling issues. Last edited by Provoste; 06-16-2017 at 06:27 AM. |

If it's a road course track I don't think you can gain much by adding tons of horsepower, as others mentioned. Even after 7 track events with the 1LE (on the tracks that I have prior experience and feel comfortable) and good amounf of seat time, I still think I have a lot to learn and improve.
I will eventually add power but only when I believe the power that I have is not enough for the handling level of this car which is not the case at the moment (even with the 325s in the rear). And if I ever do it will be NA for sure (ported IM, GM Head and Cam kit with some conservative tune maybe). ~490-500 whp healthy track build is my ultimate goal (if there's such a thing). So technically a LT376/535 engine ZL1 1LE conversion. While being 100 lbs lighter than that I've had an FI track car ( Rotrex supercharged BRZ) once, it was a bad idea. Even with the coolest running centrifugal type supercharger with only 260whp I was having heat related issues and tune was never right. I cannot imagine what kind of cooling mods would be involved with 550whp aftermarket supercharger kit that runs a lot hotter than Rotrex ZL1 is what you need IMO, it would be a lot better option for track use as it's already designed (from factory) with 11 heat exchangers to overcome the heat generated with that 650 hp monster engine at the track. It will also keep the value and when under warranty (even at the track). It's so hard to beat that.
