Traded Paint With My Daughter

Daughter comes in this morning and says she backed into my car in the driveway. It's still dark and pouring so I go out a bit later to see and I don't know how she did it but the only damage appears to be a stripe of traded paint or black rubber left on the upper rear fender above the wheel well.

Could this be from a door handle? Is this burned clearcoat or something?

I'm paint stoopid.

How should I go about removing this?

Doesn't look too bad. You will probably be able to buff that out. Porter Cable, Meguiars Mirror Glaze 105/205 should do the trick. I don't see any dents so you should be good to go. Buff out the mark then wax.

It might come off with something as simple as Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax.

Probably can be rubbed off with a MF towel and detail spray.

Try polishing compound or an abrasive polish. You will probably get the mark out, but more than likely you may have sustained some creasing (dent). See how bad the spot is after you have cleaned it.

Haha! The look of worry and concern on her face when she came in to tell me. She was practically in tears... was almost enough. She has offered to buff it out once I told her that was possible

Thanks for the advice folks! THe whole car is covered with swirl marks and wash marks from when I bought it so I've been reading up on buffing and polishing such things already. I'll try the less intensive suggestions first but I think a Porter Cable DA and cutting pads are in order anyhow for all the swirls I have. This may have just been the impetus I needed

The PC has a lot of vibration, when you use it for several hours, it will numb your hands/arms.

The Rupes is the best polisher, but it is expensive. Look into the Griots Garage 6" R/0. It has a lifetime warranty.

Megs D300 compound, and Megs DMC cutting pads will remove swirls easily, without all the dusting you get from other compounds.

For finishing, Carpro Essence works great as it removes/fills light defects, and also provides a layer of protection that lasts up to a year. It also takes less time versus a traditional finishing polish.
