Car running hot

I have a 2013 ZL1 with about 28k miles on it. It has the lingenfelter 630 package on it. In the last year or so, it has started to overheat when in stop and go traffic. It will stay at about 220-225 when normal driving, then go up to the high 230s or even hit 240 before it suddenly cools down. It has a 160 degree thermostat. Any ideas of what this may be?

It's hard to say for sure. Could be a bad thermostat. I would replace the thermostat, flush and put in new fluid, then see where you are at.

Are you sure your temp gauge is reading correctly?

And make sure you haven't sucked up a plastic bag or something that is blocking airflow to your radiator.

I agree with changing out the thermostat, it is easy to do. I would also recommend checking to the coolant level in the intercooler/heat exchanger. These sometimes boil off coolant and run low. This is also kind of hard to bleed and get full. I have changed out my heat exchanger twice(once for a Ron Davis, and once for an AFCO) and I was refilling it every few days until it was full.

I have also swapped out my radiator(Ron Davis) and thermostats(Lingenfelter 170* and now 160*). Let us know how it works out.

Also the radiator should be almost full. You need room for expansion when the coolant gets hot.

Temp gauge is reading correctly. The factory gauge and the digital gauges i installed both match readings. I will change the thermostat and see what happens. Thanks.
