I felt like I had to share this facepalm moment...
I was going out to my car after school today, and while I'm letting it idle, waiting for the A/C to cool down, I hear this engine being revved up behind me.
That might have been meagerly interesting if it weren't a Toyota Camry from 10+ years ago. So I see this guy, sitting there in neutral, thinking he's all badass, windows down, revving up his little 4-banger, and I call him out on it. I shout, "Dude! You're driving a Corolla." I don't know if he heard me, or didn't know I was talking to him since I misidentified the car (my bad), but I'm guessing he heard something since he felt the need to rev it again, in a failed effort to show off. Needless to say, I found it overly pathetic, mostly because it was a 4-cylinder sedan in a school parking lot, but also because my V6 made more noise at 950 RPM than his Camry did at whatever it was at. And I'm standing there, thinking to myself, "You're kidding me, right?" Seriously, what high school kid thinks he's cool in a Camry? I know that I've been graced with possibly one of the coolest first cars ever (I'm constantly getting compliments from my peers), something I'm permanently indebted to my parents for, but if I had a sedan, I wouldn't try getting attention that way. I already know not to be doing that kind of thing period. At least it didn't have a tin can muffler on it...

Whether for critique or for complement, some people just want to be noticed. Otherwise, it's:

Hey man that sweet ride of his can seat 5! Legally! And comfortably. Try that in a camaro. (I think it's considered torture in some places.)

I had a guy in a Scion Xb rev at me. I laughed hysterically at him. He saw me laughing and reved again.
I think he wanted to race me, but I was having trouble holding on to the steering wheel from laughing so hard. |

A VW Touareg tried to race me this morning. It was pretty funny.

Dude. Quit pissing off the Toyota drivers. They can easily smoke your Camaro.
All they need is a recalled accelerator pedal and they're gone. Problem is, they won't be able to stop after beating you.

My favorite was a 4-cyl compact SUV packed with 6 or 7 people who wanted a race. One of the guys in the back had signaled that he wanted me to do a burn out at the light. I'm confident I successfully gave him the same look as Tommy Lee Jones (see above). While driving next to me, they were bouncing around the interior of their Grand Viagra like a pack of lemurs on crack as the driver repeatedly floored it. The engine screamed, the dorks bounced around so much that I wondered if the SUV might tip over, yet their velocity never changed - not even slightly! Oh well, I'm a nice guy so I felt embarrassed for them.
