There isn't a issue with the actual use of any old quick detailer, it's the price that's the issue. The OP's question seems to be leading to a cheaper option. To my knowledge, there isn't anything as cheap, versatile, AND good as ONR. A $16 32oz bottle of ONR can be made into so many gallons of whatever you want, it's not even funny.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a costly option.

Oh ok...gotcha! I thought you were implying that using quick detailer as a clay lubricant would do damage to the paint. I kinda figure if I already have the quick detailer on hand, I don't have to buy anything additional to use as a lube, so it's free...

In all honesty my car spends most of the time indoors and I don't need to clay too often anyhow, maybe once a year. I bet my clay bar is about 5 or 6 years old and still works like new. If I was finding the need to do it regularly I'd probably buy something specific to use as a lube.

Since it really doesn't describe it on the bottle - is there a majority approved formula for each of the ONR uses? ie. ONR to water ratio for each kind of use?

It's on the bottle, I believe 2oz ONR per 1 gal of water.
