I test drove an SS convertible last night!

One of the local Houston area dealers just received a 2SS/RS auto-trans convertible, and called us. We asked for them to notify us when one arrived, and they did.

The car looked great in Imperial Blue, black top and black interior. Top looks nice even when up. The tonneau cover was simple to install/remove. Wind buffeting on the freeway was not bad at all, and the exhaust note was somewhat quiet and not intrusive to cruising. It drove/felt like my 2010 hardtop did when it was stock. Kinda heavy and slow

Anyways, we were ready to put our name on another color one that was due in a month, but the dealer played their typical shady games and BS mark-up and protection package nonsense, so I promptly got up and left. They wanted $4K over MSRP and another $1800 for wax and carpet sealer, and some fancy locking lug nuts. Crooks in my opinion, and I'll never visit that dealer again. I've spent over $200,000 in new GM vehicles in a single year before, these guys lost a lifetime buyer.

For this reason alone, don't bother asking who the dealer was. I don't want to refer them to anyone, and I'd rather not help them get a sale.

Tony

+1 on the crooks...thanks for the road test - luchy.

I have the opportunity to buy three that are in bound right now, at MSRP. I would ONLY buy for MSRP or lower. (HAHAHAHAHA on the lower, I know)

Yeah - MSRP or lower - especially with the 2012 right around the corner.

I remember Chrysler swearing they'd never discount the LeBaron. And Mazda saying they would keep production light on the Miata, and it'd always sell at MSRP.

Both had rebates on them during the 1992 recession.

Remember the PT cruiser mania a few years ago? How long did THAT take before the discounting....

I love haggling with dealers but for the vert I was happy to just pay MSRP. I'm still gonna try to throw in the student discount at the last minute.

Placed like that really need to be put out of business. Glad I have a small town dealer near me to deal with. A place where a hand shake actually mean something.

It's this BS that ruined GM before! To loose a what is certainly a top customer over 5K - they can't see the forest for the trees!

I wish GM would tell it's dealers that while we can't stop you from gouging, if you do so we will put you at the bottom of the list for new, hot or limited edition models.

If my local dealer (who received over 100k from me for two new cars in a single year) tries a stunt like that, I won't argue but just go directly to Becky and have the car shipped to me.
